Clarion APX401.2 Amps
Hey guys. I just got two of these clarion amps for a REALLY REALLY good price(practically free). I don't know if they are good or not.
http://www.clarion.com/amps/amps03.htm
here are the specs:
Paintable Heat Sink Design
Maximum Power Output 400W
Continuous Average Power Output 200W (100W x 2 into 4 Ohms 20Hz-20kHz @0.05% THD)
Typical 2-Ohm Stereo 190W x 2 @ 0.5% THD
Typical 2 Ohm Mono Power 1kHz 380W @ 0.5% THD
Bass Extender Control 0~18dB @ 45Hz
Adjustable 55Hz-5.5kHz, 12dB/oct. High/Low Pass Crossover
Mixed-Mode Operation
Bridgeable 2/1 Channel Operation
Speaker Level Inputs
Double-Sided Glass Epoxy Circuit Board
Anyways, what can I do with two 2 channel amps? Can I use 1 to power the subs and the other to power the component speakers?
What subs would you guys recommend with these amps, I'm looking for 2-10" or 2-12" I'm going for cleaner sounds.

I havent heard too much about Clarion amps, but what I had heard, most of it was good buzz.

I'm guessing quite a few ...
They're still good amps, though ... I hope A&B Sound does another sale like they did for the Clarion 400.2s in 2002 ... I quite enjoyed the 400.2 while I had it, but I decided I didn't really need it, so I sold it ...

I was planning to buy an APX401.2 amp to power a Clarion ProAudio XW1000 sub. However, a friend pointed out the following:
*********************************************
The amp you have chosen doesn't really suit the Sub. Since the sub has dual 4 ohm voice coils it will be wired to be either 8 ohm or 2 ohm at the speaker box cup. Since wiring the sub to 8ohm will make the power output of your amp almost nothing...it's a waste (in a single woofer set-up). Therefore...your need an amp that is capable of a 2 ohm mono load. By reading the specs on the 401.2 it is not able to do this.
**********************************************
Does anyone know if the APX401.2 is capable of a two-ohm mono load OR is my friend incorrect ... will I be able to use both components together? Thanks
