Hey,

I'm in the market for a component set. I am thinking of running a totally active setup (I have a tsunami db4440) which will give me either 2 x 220 or 4x75 i believe.

What I am looking for is really solid punchy mid-bass and nice warm sounding crystal clear highs (pretty much what everyone is looking for).

I live in an area where I can't really audition any of the sets i'm listening below so I'm looking for opinions on some of the sets i'm considering below.

The only set out of these that i've actually heard would be the focal utopia's but their a little more than i'd like to spend (as are pretty much all the first 5 sets i'm listing) I'd like to stay with something in the second set i'm listing as they are more in my price range. But i'd really love to hear from some of you guys that have had actual expierience with some of these sets.

On the high end

1. Macrom M1 6.0 series
2. Focal Utopia 165W 6.5"
3. a/d/s 236is 6.5"
4. DLS MS6 2-way system 16,5 cm (6,5")
5. Focal Polykelvar 165K 6.5"

On the mid end (i'm hoping something in here will suit my tastes)

1. DIY with vifa pl 7's and Vifa xt25 tweeters
2. DLS R6A 2-way system 16,5 cm ( 6,5")
3. ADIRE AUDIO Koda 6.1
4. Polk Momo MM6 6.5"
5. INFINITY KAPPA PERFECT 6.1 6.5"

Also... i'd be interested to know how some of the cdt stuff would compare to this.... i can't afford the eurosport stuff but their low line and mid line stuff would be within my price range.

And i hear RE is coming out with some components. I'd be interested in hearing some more about these as well but i can't seem to find too much without filtering through hundreds of posts on the boards. So if anyone has any info about these could you pm or post.

Thanks in advance for your replies,
TJ

If you do enough research, you can find an HT set capable of doing the job and end up saving a lot of money, but you're more likely going to get hit and miss seeing as its designed for home. Good choice with going all active too.

That is the home theatre bible I used for picking what's best out there for tweets and some home stuff.

Otherwise, any of the car components listed there would likely satisfy. I'd really like to hear the a/d/s and DLS components someday. Too bad I haven't heard many of those in the list, so I can't further comment.

Add Diamond and MB Quart to that mix of lines as well.

^Agreed. Heck, that'll make deciding even more of a challenge.

I wasn't impressed at all with the AVI cashmere sets when I heard them on display, nor in the Speaker City demo car, but might as well add them to the list anyways.

Just to let you know, the DLS R6A's I believe have the same cone material as the top of the line Iridiums, just a completely different motor and basket, etc. In Europe, it was very popular for the top end DLS competitors to use the DLS R6A 6.5" with the UR1 tweeters........... even when the Ultimate reference component set was available (that's now changed with the Iridiums now available and everyone using those now). I actuallt tried this setup and was impressed with the detail and accuracy given the price of the R6A's. Only draw back was that the motor structure on the R6A's is rather bulky. But if you have the room, it's a very nice option.

You should buy my kicker resolution rs6 and rmb8...killer midbase and good sound. I also have a CDT image enhancement kit to go with it. its pretty sweet.

Cant comment on your list, since ive never heard them myself.

Hey all,

Right now i'm leaning towards either the DLS, CDT, or the vifa stuff.... Tom and pei330ci are making the dls stuff sound pretty damn good
