Well I'm not sure if this should go in sq or spl, But i have an 05 rav4, and want to buy 2 sets of componets ones for the front doors and another set for the rear doors, i've never seen someone do this, is this a good idea? If so, what component sets should i be budgeting my money around with 300 dollars?

I would put the quality and bulk of the coinage up front if you're looking for a more SQ oriented system.

This is usually where I mention MR2NR's name and suggest the OP listen to his advice, since he has access to great gear and knows how to do business.......

 

whatever fits the oem location in the rear. Use a co-axial set of speakers for rear fill/sound and buy the best sounding (to you) front comps you can. I usually like to stick to the same brand and model range for the rear co-axials as the tones tend to be similar to the front comps, but you can use others...just try to stick with similar equipment ie. soft dome tweets in the components would mesh well with soft dome tweets in the co-axial etc...

sure if money is no object, then you can get 2 sets of utopias, but if there is some sort of a budget, then the bulk of it should be spent on the front and some on the rear, otherwise you compromise the front to get 2 not as good sets.

 

Sounds like an Alpine commercial LOL Some of the top/popular names you'll see around here for speakers are Morel, Focal, CDT, Hybrid, JBL. Most of those brands have entry level speakers that shame "flagships" of other brands, so in terms of gear, maybe take a look at some of those brands and see what you think. Ultimately it will be your ear and your wallet that makes the decision, so get pounding the pavement and listening to some speakers. As for the component-vs-coaxial-for-rear-fill battle you're having, you are technically right. If you compare... hmmm.... Alpine is popular.... The Type S coaxial and the Type S component sets, the components sound better. But think of this... How many concerts do you see that have speakers behind you? Very few, if any. The idea in a car is to have the same effect; all the sound should be presented to you as if you are right in front of the performance. Adding rear speakers in the first place will draw your sound unnaturally to the rear, but most people like the rear fill so they do it anyways. The focus should be on getting yourself a nice set of front components and going from there
