I just bought a new music CD at the music store. So I wanted to make a copy for my car right. Put it in my PC, using Nero, and it told me it can't be copied. I was just trying to go disc-to-disc with it.

Its not against copyright laws for me to make a copy for my own personal use, is it?

So, does anyone know how to get around this? Is there a better burning software out there, maybe a patch so the software doesn't care if its 'protected' or not. A different method for burning it?

The back of the cd box says it is protected by "Copy Control Technology"

Any help re this would be greatly appreciated.

Cant you just copy all the music files on to your computer, then burn them on to a CD like you would a normal cd?

 

the easiest way that i do it is to hook up my cd player to the input jack of the sound card and record using creative sound blaster or something similar. Once that is copied to your files you have a digital copy. I have found that I can not tell the difference between doing this and a true digital copy,particularly if it's compressed(mp3,wma). There are some programs that are supposed to bypass the copy control but i've found them to be inconsistent or useless as new copy protection systems are being released. I have many burned cds that have both true digital and cd player copied next to each other and no one can tell the difference. Try it, you have nothing to lose.

 

Ya, I was gonna by Fatboy Slim's new cd a while back and noticed the "Copy Control" thing on the back before I bought it, so I chose not to buy it. Heck, I figured, I'll just download a copy that someone else already cracked. So in essence, them putting the control on it, made me decide not only decide NOT to buy it, but to find a pirated copy.

I did hear somewhere many many moons ago that one of Eminem's cd's had control, and the way around it was to take a felt pen to the entire outer ring of the disk, before the data area starts, just the first few milimeters. Dunno if it actually works or not [img]graemlins/dunno.gif[/img]

 

Yes, I have decided also that if it's copy protected I will not buy the cd either. if someone that I know has it i will borrow it and digitize it. I agree totally with Grizz, this system is causing more pirating of music, because I will purposely go out of my way to allow downloading of my digitized copy protected cds now.

 

You just need a program that disables the copy protection. Same way as if you'd want to rip a DVD onto your PC. I use a program that takes the copyright protection off the DVD's. I haven't ran into that problem with just regular music discs yet. But, I am sure there is the same prog for music cds.
