crunch vs kenwood
yes i know, these are probably crappy amps by all your standards on here, but i'm poor and still kinda new to this. basically i was looking for some opinions on two amplifiers, the Crunch GP2500D and the Kenwood Excelon KAC-X1R
here are the specs for each that i found Crunch RMS Power Range : 625-1250 Watts Number Of Channels: 1 Maximum Power: 2500 Watts Built In Crossovers: Yes Channel Separation: Yes 625W x 1-Ch @ 4-Ohms 1250W x 1-Ch @ 2-Ohms 2500W x 1-Ch @ 1-Ohm Dynamic Music Watts Dual-Core MOSFET Power Supply Design High-Grade MOSFET Audio Outputs Remote Bass Control Included Amp Protection with Diagnostics LED's Dual Sound Shaping Controls 12 dB Bass Boost Mono/Stereo Switch HP/LP/Full-Pass Crossover Selections Input Level Control (0.2-5V) RCA Inputs & Line Outputs Removable Amplifier End Caps Oversized Speaker Terminals Kenwood RMS Power Range : 600-1200 Watts Number Of Channels: 1 Maximum Power: 2400 Watts Built In Crossovers: Yes Channel Separation: Yes Dual sigma drive RMS Power at 4 Ohm: 1 x 600 Watts RMS Power at 2 Ohm: 1 x 1200 Watts Maximum Output Power: 2400 Watts Signal-to-Noise Ratio: 80dBA Low-Pass Filter: 40-200Hz (Variable), -24dB/oct Infrasonic Filter: 15Hz-60Hz (Variable), -24dB/oct Variable Band Reject Filter: 40Hz-200Hz, OFF/-6dB/-12dB Bass Boost Ready (Wired Remote): 40Hz-100Hz, 0dB–+18dB i'm looking for about 1200 watts rms and from the research i've done the dynamic music watts on the crunch means max watts, and they don't say rms but it does have an rms range so i'm confused as to which has more rms watts. i've got a kenwood now so i know they're not bad. basically i'm just looking for some insight as to which is the better amp for me to go with. |
What kind of budget do you have on the amp and what impedence does the amp need to operate at? No idea, then are the subs a dvc 4 ohm, svc 4 ohm?
|
Kenwood over crunch....WAYY over
|
I have a GP2500. havent had a problem even burping it @ .5 ohms, great daily driver amp and never got hot. Kenwood amps i see getting serviced all the time or replaced completely as they fry everything.

as for the budget i found the kenwood for 300 online and the crunch for 219, so i would guess somewhere in that range. i know i save like 80 bucks with the crunch but i don't want it to be crappy you know?
ps if there is anyone who has one of these amps working or a similar one and could give me the same or a better price you're more than welcome to pm me :) |
There is no fan in the gp2500d, doenst need one, it is one of the coolset operating amps i have had. As for price, with the canadian dollar being so low right now. you are looking at 20 bucks more on each 100 dollars. then the gst on it when you briing it in to the country aswell as the other customs and brokerage.

I do not believe Crunch is a pile of junk myself. If you do 10 minutes of research online, there are too many people happy with them. Check out the reviews from people who have purchased them (Woofers etc, Sonic, all those type stores).
Are they DD, or Audison, or even MTX? No. But they arent the same price either are they? Why dont you make an offer on the ones in the for sale section? The whole setup is there for you. Odds are if you get sucked into this hobby (raises hand) you're going to upgrade anyway, pretty much everyone seems to from what I've seen, LoL. Just offer the guy something, get er in, and start listening. One of the mods here once posted a comment thats stuck with me "you are wasting valuable listening time" I think it was. Anyway, my advice was free, so take it for what its worth ;) John |
i think i would rather run a Maxxsonics(crunch, hifonics, autotek) over a kenwood(atleast amp wise)
ive been running hifonics for probably atleast 6 years, ive run the hifonics BX1000D and BXi1606D and neither overheat or anything like that fresh1 are u planning on running 2 of those 4ohm DVC subs? if so u want a 1ohm stable amp which the kenwood is NOT, crunch can do 1ohm which is supposed to be 1250rms but probably closer to 1000rms |
