What it is people.
Actually, I'm not as gangster as I might sound. Hi, I'm Vic and I'm new to these forums. I come from RedFlagDeals forums in search of a car audio system for my car, which is a 97 Accord Coupe. I bought it recently and I've decided it's time to get some bass in the trunk.
I can assume that this forum gets at least two threads like this a day, however I just got back from working at a local 7-Eleven (come in, have a free slurpee) two days back to back with no sleep in between. Have mercy.
Anyway, I'll try to list what I can think of that I need help with:
-I want to buy a 10" or a 12" single subwoofer. I need a subwoofer for daily listening, I don't want to win anything, but I want nice, powerful bass. This brings me to my question. I understand that WRMS is not all the subs are about, however how much WRMS would you recommend?
-I listen to trance and it's harder sides. I know the difference between SPL and SQ and SEALED and PORTED enclosures. I'm thinking about SEALED for SQ reasons. However I want the sub to shake me in the driver's seat, however I don't want to reglue my rear view mirror. Since PORTED boxes shake more, would I shake if a sub is in a SEALED box (just to give a guideline, imagine something like a Alpine Type-R 12" in the sealed box)?
-Would I need to get speakers & amp for the speakers ASAP? My friend, who is also newb, said that the sub would drown the sound and that I should get component speakers first with an amp to power them. I'm thinking to get sub first and then in a month or so get component speakers.
-How much a typical 4 gauge wiring installation would cost me?
-Headunits. I know nothing. Except that I want CD-RW MP3 compatibility. However, the same newb friend said that if I get a headunit, amp, and speaker that output different frequency levels, my music is going to sound ****ed up. Was he right? Or is he onto something but not quite right?
Finally, I hate paying retail. After finding such a great site, I want to contribute by buying something used at a fraction of the cost. If someone can suggest something for a BUGDET OF 1,000$ or so that would be great. But keep in mind that grand has to cover installation as well. So If installation would be 200$, that's 800$ left. I CAN go over the budget if I have to but I would prefer not to. Also, if the lot of you will start saying "just install it yourself", then I just might. I don't know how hard/easy it is.
Also, if anyone is selling anything that you think I might be interested in, PLEASE PM! I am looking!
P.S. Do subs like the W7s really pay themselves off? I mean if they are really that great than I can dish out the extra dough. However, if they are overkill for a daily driver, who is 18 years old btw , then it must be a no go.

If your budget is $1000 you might want to consider going with some nice condition used gear. It's up to you but nice used stuff can be had for great pricing. Anyways.......
First thing is find a HU that has the features you want. Many budget conscious decks these days come fairly well equipped. You don't need to go overboard on a high-priced deck to get good sound and most amps these days come with all the crossover capabilities you're going to need.
A basic 4g wiring kit shouldn't cost you more than $100.
At your stage a W7 is way more than you should be looking at. Whether it is worth the pricetag is a personal preference but many agree that there are drivers that sound as good if not better for cheaper. A good choice for great SQ at a decent pricetag is the Image Dynamics IDQ. A new version is on the way for April so keep an eye out for it (but this is just one in many great drivers available).
I would suggest a single 12" driver and go ported. A proper ported enclosure can achieve fantastic SQ all while offering much more output over a sealed design.
So keep an eye out on the For Sale section in this forum for some great deals and go ahead and ask some questions if you don't know if the item is a good choice. Good luck and welcome to the board!
