dB Drags and USACi..can you be good at both?

Yes, it's definitely possible.
In the late '90s my shop supported a customer who got invited to the IASCA finals in both SQ & iDBl. The key to that sort of system is a very good EQ. I'm also not sure of the various SPL rules but if it's also possible to shut off the main speakers, that would also help.

I've done alright. If you got a well built box then power shouldn't be a huge issue. The more power the better, but we all know it comes down to the box.
I... I HATE MY BOX
I think it's harder to compare dBDrag vs IASCA...
For someone like me who's built for Street Max(1 battery 2 amps) get put into a fairly general class in IASCA. unlimited everything!(minus subs)

You can do well in both locally (I am assuming you are talking about USACi SQ and dB Drag, If you are talking about USACi SPL then it is easy to be comeptitive in both). On a national level it's a different story. You wil get owned by the dedicated SQ guys in SQ and butt kicked by the dedicated SPLers in SPL. You will fail at both basically on a national level. And don't anyone tell me with enough money you can be competitive at both, because there will always be dedicated SQ guys or SPL guys spending the same or more than you and focussing on one thing.

How can a competator in the 301-900 USAQi Spl with 2 12' subs win then go on to compete against someone in street B dB Drags that can have maximum wattage as long as they have only 1 15" 2 12"s or 3 10"s.
Is it possible to win both in a low watt catagory???
If I was in say 1800+ I can see it being possible but not in the lower wattage classes

I do both DBDrag Street A and USACi SQ and do very well in both. Most of last season I placed 2nd at all events I attended after a poor showing at my first show of the year at Surrey Visions and technical difficulties at Andre's in Kelowna. I took top honours in Williams Lake a few weeks ago for SQ and still managed 143.0db's with a new (untested) box design.
To be top dog in either SQ or SPL I feel you have to dedicate yourself to one or the other. Guys like Rob VO will dominate SPL and Oakley will decimate all in SQ this year. One big thing that I feel we have in common is that we all believe our systems sound exactly the way we want them to and we enjoy them every day.
I'd like to think of myself as a SQL kinda guy.

i think this is actually a good topic...
when i first got into car audio i wanted to eventually have the "ultimate sound system"...but after experience found out it's simply not possible - you just can't have your cake and eat it too. if you want to be top of your class you gotta pick ONE.
i agree with DWVW, you can do good at a local level in both, but on a national level you gotta focus your efforts.
for me, i have personal goals for my system now. i've done the "all out" on spl...and was lucky enough to experience finals. now, i want to just reach my own "perfect" sound system. which for me, is doing my own complete install on power, deck, front/back stage, and sub&box. i want to be able to hit 150 dB (or very close) but still have some sweet sound in there....
i guess i'd like to balance it out around 75% on spl, and 25% on sq...which for a hardcore db dragger is quite a lot...but it's my goal.
