which deck to get?
I'm trying to decide what deck to get, but can't decide between a couple, so I'd figure I'd ask here. I'm contiplating the Pioneer AVH-P7800DVD, Alpine IVA-D310, and the Alpine IVA-W200. sound quality is a must, as well as the ablity to fine tune everything off the deck. I'm also contiplating doing 5.1 later on too. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

If you are after a sq based system with a screen and the ability to do 5.1, look at the Eclipse line of dvd units. They will school the pioneer for sure (I sell both) and any time we have done a system up against the Alpine, the Eclipse came out on top. All are good units, it depends on where you want to take the system to.

sorry, i would never own an eclipse deck. I've seen too many come back with problems, and they're really picky on cds I find. they sound great tho
also, i should point out, if i got an alpine, i'd be more then likely get the PXA-H701 as well

Sounds kinda fishy to me. I am the oldest and largest independent Eclipse dealer in Western Canada and I don't see any of these issues that you are talking about.
<edit> I can't say that I have not had cd players from Eclipse with no issues but for a continuous problem, there has been no major issues since 1999 model e-skips units. Unlike the known issue of the Pioneer grounding problem that has been there for over 15 years now for example. I have had one CD1000 (made by JVC for Eclipse) that has had a issue not playing a cd. Of all the Eclipse made units this years or last years models, I have had zero issues with them for reading cd's. The last cd player from Eclipse that I had as a new unit that had a issue with reading a cd was the CD3434 from about 3 years ago.

I've ran the IVA-W200 for a while and i'm really happy with it. Upgrading from a 7894, I did lose some options like time correction (which was neat) and supposedly 2v on each pre-out, but i'm really happy with it. I don't remember changing the gains on my amp at all to adjust for the new deck and all sounded just as good.
The screen is nice and clear and touch screen works well. I think pairing it with the PXA-H701 would be pretty well phenomenal and hard to beat. Only possible issue for me was not being able to come up with the eleventy billion dollars for them both, plus a 60gb ipod, and blackbird. Soon though...errr well sometime!
I'm very happy with the deck so far (5 or 6 months).
