deck shuts off when the stereo is at its loudest!?!

I have an alpine "glide touch" head unit and when I crank the stereo.. The deck shuts off then comes back on right away... What would be the cause of this?

System: JL - 1000/1, 2x 12"w6's, 0/1 gage, stock altornator, 1 farad cap.

could this be because of a voltage drop? (lights dim bad when I drive)

Triple check the ground to the deck!

tristanrules 09-13-2006 05:48 PM

Check the speakers, make sure the OHMS are correct. I had this problem and it was a blown coil of my quad coil sub

theboy 09-13-2006 05:57 PM

that would affect the amp not deck!

JL_sunfire 09-14-2006 06:16 PM

I will check the ground but the power to the deck is not to the battery. It's hooked up to the wire harness.

Hook it up,just like you would an amp,i used 10 awg from battery to deck, alot of alpine decks require this..
I never really noticed any major improvement, just slightly.

I should put a fuse from the battery to the deck right? If so, what size?

Depends on the size of the wire that you are running...

jim lucas 09-14-2006 10:29 PM

are you runing subs if not there wont be enough voltage drop to shut off the deck. most likely it is a bad ground i would just change that before you do anything if that doesnt fix it then just run a wire to the battery you can do this with power and ground. put a fuse in line with the power and try to keep it as close to the battery as possible use a 10 amp that wouls be fine.

your car has dogsh!t factory wiring, you need to run a new 12awg consatant powr lead to your ignition or battery if you cant figure the ignition out, just do it and be done with it

Im running subs...

2 JLaudio 12" W6's
JLaudio 1000/1 amp
0/1 gage all the way back and 4 gage from alt. to batt.

jim lucas 09-16-2006 09:15 PM

also you can stick a chunk of 0/1 guage from the negative battery terminal to your chassis that might help and you i would run power for your deck strait to your battery

did the 0/1 gage ground from the battery... But im going to run a power wire from the battery, directly to the deck. Hope it works:thumbsup:

is your hu driving speakers ?

if not Id say voltage drop... if you are, then one of the speakers (or connections) could also be the problem......

Yes my head unit is driving my speakers. Ive never had this prob with my other deck but then again.... system has never been this loud

Smoke_31 09-24-2006 03:36 AM

My brother had the exact same issue with an older alpine hu. We ended up swapping out his alternator and it solved his issue so in his case it was voltage drop.

If your going to go to the trouble of changing the ground you may as well do everything you think will help ie: dedicated circuit from batt fused and if your not sure what size check your owners manual or the alpine site .
I had this happen to me and it wasnt the deck gound or power leads it was the altenator not charging the battery properly

maltesechicken 09-24-2006 06:58 PM

Disconnect the remote wire from your sub amp (ie - your subs won't run)
Crank the volume up to where it normally turns off or higher. If the Deck still shuts off - you know the problem is with the speakers connected to the deck. If the deck doesn't shut off it is a voltage drop when the subs are running.
