Which deck, And where to find parts?

Hey guys,

My first post here. So yesterday I am driving by this grubby pawn shop, and I see they have a "yard sale" at the store, just outside the building, I walk up, and find two decks, ask the guy how much, and he says, "10 bucks each" So I picked up both of them. One is a RF RFX 9120, the other is an Alpine CDE-9845. I wanna put one of them in my Explorer, which of the two is the better deck, does anyone know? I am not really familiar with specs and judgment on whats better than what, my knowledge is kind of restricted to installs. I will be putting at least a sub in my Explorer in the next week, I will probably eventually upgrade the stock speakers in the next while. Also, the Rockford came without a volume ****, I don't know where to find one, I called RF direct yesterday and they don't have anything... does anyone know if other models volume dials will work, and possibly where to find them? I made one yesterday, it actually turned out really well, but I would still like to have an actual volume **** from RF on it. Anyways, thanks for your time guys.

The RF I believe has 6ch outputs which would be beneficial as far as expanding your system. The Alpine does not have a Subwoofer preout according to Crutchfield. Neither of them have an abundance of features over the other that I can tell. I would probably go for the RF as you are planning on adding a sub and possibly speakers in the near future. Not a bad deal for $10 each as long as they work.

Okay. So is there much difference between the two with these specs:

RF
CD Frequency Response - 20-20000Hz
CD Signal-to-Noise Ratio - 80 dB

Alpine

CD Frequency Response - 5-20000Hz
CD Signal-to-Noise Ratio - 105dB

Is that a noticeable difference? I don't really know how to gauge these specs.

The Alpine does only have 2 pre-outs, one say front, the other says rear/sw, so I don't know if there is a way it filter for a sub or what, or if they just put it there to be cool. lol.

The second output on the Alpine can be switched from a HPF rear output to a LPF sub output thru the deck setup.

Personally I would try them both....you may hear a difference in the sound output that will help you decide, you can always save the other one as a spare......
