Angry dissapointed in the mach 5 ixl someone help?

okay well ive made 2 boxes so far for my mach 5 12"ixl one at 2.1cubes @36.5hz and my current box 1.8@33hz (manf. specs) and im super dissapointed. i get dick all for out put compared to my type r. and im really regretting buying the ixl and selling my r
i have the same f***ing problem like tuesday when i posted about the sub then i made a new box. i get this god dam pop from the sub kinda seems like its coming from the buble thing on the sub. and i NEVER had this problem with my type r, my amp is rated for 1krms at 1 ohm but its more like 7-800 and i can barely turn the gain up to half with that noise. with the r i had gain like 3/4 and worked like a charm and didnt stink anything up either haha, and i was putting 500 rms to it. wtf could the problem be? i know with my type r i had a second batt hooked up and all that junk and when i was at the shop where i obught the sub last sun he cleaned up my install including a better ground and such and he took out my second bat said it wasnt nessicary now i dim like . i doubt the second bat would affect anything tho? im so frusterated with this sub.
im using bass boost on the amp and hu i know thats a no no but its either that or i turn the gain up and get that popping noise someone please help.
i can give you specs on hu and amp (freq. ranges etc) if you need.

What kind of amp do you have? Did you buy the sub new or used? Did you change anything else when you put in the new box? Did you disconnect the amp while you were doing this? Need to know these things before making an edjucated guess

is the poping noise repetitive (i.e. pop...pop...pop...) or just once and awhile?

1.8 sounds small. Did you wire at a lower ohm with your amp?

1.8ft is what the manufacturer calls for... just ran there numbers in bass box pro and the box looks great flat response no peaks... thats with 20sq in of port tuned to 33hz like it calls for.... he said his amp is wired at 1 ohm and that amp makes 1000wrms at 1 ohm

rbg i its wired to 1 ohm 99% sure. i have a wire + to + on sub and a wire from one + side to the box terminal + and then - to - and then a wire from the - to the box terminal - but on the opposite side as the + wire. according to the rockford site.
