there is no substitute for a sub.You will find that every one here will probably agree that a sub is a must in a decent sound system.

Yes you do. Comp sets will play down to 80ish. A real good set 70-60 if you are luck. A sub woofer is used to take care of the other 70hz-20hz. Usually recording don't go below 30ish let alone 20hz. But i def. think that you will like the result of purchesing a sub. Even if it is just a 10" or an 8" you AWLWAYS yield good results.

i'd say just get the two way components, and then a couple quick 8 or 10s, you'll get way better sound, and it won't cost you an arm and a leg either

The word NEED is an interesting one. I don't need an aftermarket stereo in my car - but I certainly do enjoy the better sound quality that I get from it. So, to answer your Question:

No, you don't need a sub with 2 or 3 way components, but a sub would be a really nice sounding addition to the system.

Has anyone heard the PG ti elite three way set with the nine inch mod bass driver that has an extra shallow mounting depth to fit in the door?

I personaly have an small fleet of cars. All have variations on sound systems from stock to an all out SQ system. I personaly feel all are good for there specific aplication. My daily driver has 3 ways up front and 2 way 6x9's in back. It sounds ok but is hardly used. The SQ system has 2 way components and an single 10 driver, it get used "sub"stanualy more. I guess what I'm trying to say is get the best you can aford, an sub does much more than any single component can on there own.Do the sub if you can!

Depends on what you listen to music wise and how loud you like to listen to it. 6.5" drivers can play down low but you can't "crank" them as they will for the most part start to break up. But you can get away without a sub. For you doubters........ any of you have a portable boom box and looked at the size of the drivers!??!?!??
