Question

I was thinking weather it was necessary to have rear speakers for rear fill? I'm going to drive the car and listen to my favorite CDs with the front speaker faded entirely forward. Any of you just upgrade the front speakers and don't bother with the rear fill? I do have a sub low passed at 80 hz, and the fronts are high passed at 100 hz.

I highly recommend putting all your money into your front stage rather than taking 1/2 for the front stage and 1/2 for the rear fill ...

I don't like rear speakers unless the front stage is lacking in midbass and I am unable to modify the doors.
Empty holes in the rear deck allow more bass to vent into the cabin also.

I found that if done right, the rear stage actually reinforces the front stage.

I use 5.25" coaxially mounted component speakers up front in kick pods with 75w+ a side, and in the rear I have cheap panasonic 6.5" coaxes running off the deck full range. With the rear fill centered with the front stage, the rear fill adds more midbass and dynamics while being almost completely transparent. It does depend on the car, my brother's civic hatchback has two 6x9's in prefab boxes and all you can hear is the rear fill.

Rear speakers really have no purpose (except messing up your sound stage) and who cares about the passengers anyway?

I could understand midbass. But in my celica with the rear speakers a shorter distance to your ears than the doors, any sound of vocals etc., would to me screw up the sound stage?

I don't run rear fill. I don't see the need for it.

As has been said before on this topic, if done properly, rear fills will enhance the sound quality. I heard a car with the rear fills just barely audible and then turned off completely. With the rear fills barely turned on, the soundstage was deeper....sounded great!!!
