dodge caravan audio options
I am going to be getting a Dodge Caravan in short order. I was looking to see what fits it and found the front dash speakers are 5 1\4, front doors are 6x9 and rear are 6x9.
I will be likely finding new 6x9's for the front. I already have a set of component Energy 5 1/4's that I like for the dash. If anyone has this van are you aware of the mounting depth for the 6x9's in the front. I am looking at getting something that will add some nice mid bass and don't want to do any custom work if at all possible.
Also, I may try and find one with the in car DVD system. Does anyone know what, if any exta work I would have to do to put a new deck in because of the DVD system.
Thanks

about 3 1/2 inch.. i tried 5 1/4 on dash and 6x9 in the door and i find that the soundstage is everywhere.. unless you going 3 way i wouldnt do it ( from personal experience) i have the 6 1/2" energy in the doors right now and it sounds alot better.

How do you find the energy 6.5's are for midbass. I don't find the 5 1/4's have much, if any. My current car doesn't even fit 5 1/4 but I got em for $50 so I figured why not. But if I am changing up cars I may as well get the setup I want.

Speaker and head unit choice are going to be dependent upon your budget. I would be short listing a amplifier (4 channel ideally) to run the new speakers as well. The 5.25" components would probably be best in someone else's system I hate to say. I know that there was someone in the wanted section that is looking for a good set of used 5.25" component speakers and yours are right in his price range.

What I want for my new system is the following. Keeping in mind I have no idea what brands or anything yet and it will largely be dependant on how much, if any money I have left over.
Headunit - Pioneer DEH-490IB (already have)
Front door - 6.5" component
Kickpanels in front - 6.5" midbass
Subs - 2 x 12" )(2 @ 4ohm - 250RMS each)
Amp Alpine MPR500.1 @ 2ohm (already have)
4 channel amp to power front comps and midbass

the energy have decent midbass. not loads of it but decent. got then for 70$ so i cant complain too. i used a wood baffle in the doors and it makes the world of difference. its HPF at 80 and boost +3 at 120hz on my clarion deck. and its nice... if your gonna put those 5 1/4 on the dash you wont have any midbass. i tryed it and dont expect it lol.
dont do kickpods since your E brake is right there. you can do door pods tho. the inner plastic can come off with a little cutting and will not affect the door skin. ( can be put together with a little resin or that yellow stuff they use for for pluming )
talk to rob ^^^ he will set you up with the right stuff within your budget. hes a great guy with great service.. same as for the rest of the vendors on this site.

I have a consigment Alpine MRP-F250 amp that would be ideal for you if you want to try and save some $ there. That would allow you to stretch the budget some and go for a set of 3way component speakers. A amp that is 50w x 4 is going to be ample to give you lots of output in this vehicle and is a good match of power to your sub system. I have many amps to choose from for you depending on your budget.
Consider this, just because you have the room for 3 way components means you should do it. As you pointed out yourself, your budget is going to help you decide. A good set of 2 way components might be exactly what you are looking for. A 6x9" rear speaker and perhaps a 6x9" front component speaker or if you can budget it front 3way component speakers. The 3way components are going to lead to custom installation by means of proper mounting adaptor plates.
I have a deal that came in on 12" Pioneer Premiere subs in dual 2 ohm or some Bassworx 12" single 4 ohm as well. Match them up with a box and it will deliver a great amount of bottom end.
For the dvd system, your cd player appears to have a rear aux input so getting a audio signal from the dvd into the main stereo is not a big deal at all. I am assuming that you are after a overhead monitor with built in dvd player type. I will check for deals on these as there is always a distributor with a model on sale. What size screen are you after? I would be shopping for a vehicle without a dvd system in it personally, buy the vehicle for what it is.
Delivery is not a huge deal either.....cringe..... my dad is threatening to come and see me and comes right through Kamloops on his way down and back. He would easily drop the equipment off to you (just don't get him talking......81 and going strong....)

Since I already have a Bassworx 12.2 that would probably be the best way to go since I would only have to add 1 more.
Hoping to get the car thing figured out by next weekend. But I have to tell you, if it wouldn't lead to divorce I could just use that $14000 personal loan and get myself a kick *** system.

Another question, I have heard that given the choice between 6x9's and 6.5" that the 6.5" will sound better. I don't know if this is true, and if so whether the difference would be audible or not. That being said, in a 2way component setup with 6x9's would there be any less SQ than the same 2way component in the 6.5" size. My thinking is that given the same speaker available in both sizes the 6x9 will offer more midbass via larger cone area.
