Door Speakers - JL vs Alpine
#2
I can help you with your speaker selection and broaden your horizons at the same time. Need more info though.... do you have an amp for the new speakers or are they going to run off of the aftermarket or stock headunit? What else is in the vehicle?

I would definitely consider adding an amplifier at some point to the new speakers. While upgrading speakers is definitely a good way to go, most component speakers are not very efficient at all. This means that while they may sound good, they need power in order for you to have them do their job properly to give you the level of performance that you are expecting. You do not need a large amp at all, a 50w rms x 4 amp is more than ample for these speakers (assuming it is a crew or xcab and you are replacing all 4 speakers).
What budget do you have for new speakers? Will you be doing sound deadening in the doors (hopefully as they are big metal gongs right now)? Will you be doing the installation yourself?

Front speakers are going to be 6.75" components, rear speakers should be a 4x6". Would you consider doing only the front speakers right now and adding in the rears later? I have some incredible deals that just came in on Eclipse speakers. The order will be here next week. Concentrate on the front speakers, get something good in there and add ones in the rear later on if you must. Have a look at the link and the SC6500 or SC8365 component speakers.
