Double Din In Dash GPS + Speakers
Double Din In Dash GPS + Speakers
So, I'm looking to get my stock head unit taken out, and put in a double din unit with a large screen and GPS navigation. I was looking around and i found a Pioneer head unit with a 5.8" screen, and it has navigation.
http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POCEN/Products/Navigation/Portable+Navigation/AVIC-LINC
That's the head unit, i found it browsing the brand name websites, and i liked the way it looked, and the features it has, and it turns out to be at my local future shop for $350, is this a good price? Is it a good head unit? Or is there a better unit for cheaper?
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10106931&catid=1203 8&logon=&langid=EN
There's the future shop website, it says it's in dash, but the pioneer website it's portable?
Also, I'm looking to get two new front speakers for my truck. They are 6" / 6.5" speakers, and they sound like garbage. So i want to upgrade a little, just so they don't sound blown(but aren't). I want it to be inexpensive, and better then stock, i don't want to get the best. Just something that will be better then the garbage that's in it now.
Thanks for reading, and i know i'll get my answer i always do.

WOW, i was just about to post a thread about the AVIC-LINC!
I just got mine for 150$. Stolen, and past down from ppl to ppl. By the time i got it, it was mad cheap and it still had the plastic screen protector on! Not even a week old
So back on topic.
To clarify things. It's ON-DASH. This unit works in conjunction with your existing HU. The real product name for it is AVIC-F500BT. The reason why in Canada it's called AVIC-LINC is because it comes combo'ed with a Pioneer ND-G500.
Whats a ND-G500 you might ask? A 4 channel amplifier Gateway (Say what!?!?!) . What this unit does is it allows sound from the F500BT ( Nav voice sound, SD card music, Ipod music, BT sounds and muhc muhc work.) to work in parallel with your HU.
So to sum up, YES it's portable and stationary at the same time. Use it in your own car completely hooked up in unison with the ND-G500 OR bring the unit with he cradle in another car to have an instantanious portable GPS!
Now here are the very important side notes!!
- THIS IS NOT A STANDLONE HEADUNIT! No FM/AM Tuner as well as no CD drive.
- ND-G500 utilizes LINE INPUTS ONLY! So if you have external amps, your gonna need a LINE INPUT CONVERTER.
This reason for this is weird but simple. This is how its all works:
Your ND-G500 takes your HU audio input using the line inputs (RF/LF/RR/RL) and the F500BT audio input using the simple 3.5 audio jack that plugs into the module.
F500BT --Audio snigal--> ND-G500 <--Audio Signal---Headunit
And then spits out all the audio back with line inputs (RF/LF/RR/RL). This way, when u listen to a CD on the HU, the ND-G500 can mute the HU signal and lets the NAV voice thru.

................................................|
................................................|
F500BT --Audio snigal--> ND-G500 <--Audio Signal---Headunit
But this is the main problem with AVIC-LINC is it uses Line inputs and not pre-outs so this is not meant to high end system but for OEM factory integration of BT, GPS NAV, Backup Cam and much more...
Part 2 after i eat dinner

So to rectify this line input problem, buy a line inputer converter to high voltage RCA BUUUUUUUUUTTT this leads to another problem! You wont have control over your subwoofer options through the headunit!! But you could just leave the sub pre-out alone and have the sound remain just from the sub while the GPS talks or what not but again, for voice commands, the sub might make it that much harder.
This all poses and even bigger problem if your currently run 3active all through the RCAs... then ur Fu<ked.. as far as i see.
Ive had this thing for 3 days now and have been spending hours everyday figuring out the wiring and best possible solution.
If only pioneer came out with a ND-GSomething With RCA IN/OUT Series *Sigh*

ND-G500:http://www.pioneerusa.com/StaticFile...Manual0410.pdf
So yea, the wiring harness on the ND-G500 module is MADNESS!
Not to mention, it uses an ISO connectors so on top of it, your need to buy a PARROT connector if you dont wanna splice that nice sexy massive thick (ok ill stop) harness.
The f500bt is in the car, so no pics, sry ( not to mention it to comes with a small harness for the reverse cam, parking brake, reverse signal, yellow wire, 5v DC plug... bla..bla..)
Maybe ill write an official review on CCA soon.. since there isent much info on this unit which i think is great! just lacks compatability for high end cars!

Future Shop: Car Electronics: Car Video: Pioneer 5.8" In-Dash Multimedia Player With GPS Navigation System (AVIC-LINC)
That's the head unit. And i'm looking to replace my head unit. For a GPS unit that's always in my dash. I'm seeing that this unit isn't going to be the one for me. As it looks like it has a lot of wiring.
Anyone know of a different one?

You even read my two long posts? -.- or just look at the pictures? Lol
Nyways, friend, this isent a headunit at all. Yes there alot of wiring but thats not your problem. It's not a HU lol
As for a different one, look for the Pioneer Z, X and U series in-dash navigation systems!

Yes, i realize that this wouldn't be what i'm looking for. But i'm still searching around for a head unit within my price range, under $400, and to be a replacement head unit. I was on ebay. and i found this. What do you guys think, yes it's a crappy import from china, and i don't like doing that, but the price is convincing. Comes with Canada and USA Maps, is the only thing i would need. And it has blue tooth and more. Any comments?

DVD manufacturers will apply a good navigation software better, less easy navigation DVD navigation process crashes, or slow navigation, navigation accuracy is relatively poor. Because a good DVD navigation using the "dual-core" model, that is, the CPU uses two independent processing systems, so that the two systems interfere with each other, navigation speed, high accuracy, easy to use.
