Dr.Crankenstein subs

I have the opportunity to pick up 2 of the 10 inch dr. crank dvc's in a bandpass box for $100 bucks off a guy locally. I have heard 2 completely diff sides of the coin on this product line. Some say these were some of the best spl subs for their time but most people just say "eww walmart subs" or what not. I think most people are ill-informed overall as I believe Crankenstein did put out a budget line and a higher end line (sort of like the lanzar opt'si vs the vibe's). Can anyone clear the air here? I will hook them up to my amp first to see how they sound regardless but anyone 2 cents would be nice. Especially anyone who had a taste of these first hand.

Back in the day I consulted to the Canadian distributor for Dr Crankenstein. Thru that I worked a lot with the product and the owners in Kentucky. I did a number of designs for sub enclosures that made crazy output. The woofers were made by Eminence with their patented voice coil and former technology. It was one of the reasons that Crankenstein had a no questions asked warranty. You could return it to the retailer with the woofer on fire and get it replaced.
If I recall, the product sold in Walmart was built specifically for a retail price point so the woofers although made by Eminence were not the same product as the top product sold though dealers. They worked well non the less.
