I tried wiring my Kicker S10L5 (dual 4) to 8ohm but got no output. Tested the coils and it seems one isn't working. Can I wire the sub using one voice coil (4 ohm) ?

Yes the sub can be used with only one voice coil. Take the sub to a store and have it metered to see for sure if one coil is bad. Most shops do not charge for this kind of thing.

What kind of metering do they do? If it's just with a multimeter I could do it myself. It might be best if I use just one coil anyways since it'd run optimally at 4ohms.

I agree, most coils are layered one on top of another, there is nothing wrong with using one coil, I have had customers that have done it for years. Yes, if you have a meter check each pair of coils to see that you have a good coil or not.

If it's outta warranty just do it, least it's able to be used and not just sitting in a box in the corner, specially for home use prob won't be that big of deal..... unless ur wanted to runn like 300rms to it.. but still i have had buddies with Type R's somehow keep blowing 1 voice coil and they just used 1 and never had any major issues with it..

Actually I'm gonna be running 360 RMS to it. I guess it's just taking up space anyways, hopefully I don't waste my time building a box for this thing.
