DVD-Audio Update?
#1
I've done a search on the topic here already, but have there been any new development in the availability of the technology?
So far I've found the following multimedia head units with DVD-Audio:
Eclipse
Panasonic
Pioneer
Alpine F1
My question is, does anyone know of an add-on piece that you can hook up to an existing system via digital connection? I'm not an expert on digital equipment, but I'm assuming with DVD-Audio, having 7 times the information of regular CD's, conventional D/A converters/processors may not be compatible. ???
I have a Clarion touch screen DVD player. I'm "planning" on selling it and going with an Alpine D310 when it comes out. I've heard great things about DVD-Audio. Alpine's F1 DVD-Audio unit is probably way beyond my budget.
I'm wondering if I should stick to my plans and go with the D310 because it may be quite some time before DVD-Audio catches on with the public, if a all.
It would be nice to just say enough is enough and decide on the equipment and start working on making it sound the best it can, but I always end up not liking something - build only to start all over again.
Back in the good old days you could mix and match equipment very easily. Nowadays, manufacturers bank on their products not being compatible with other brands. Changers are a prime example of this. The only thing that worked out for me is the PXA H700 - at least I can hook it up to my Clarion via the RCA inputs. However, the jury is still out on the fibre optic connections.
Any info/experience on DVD-Audio would be appreciated..... before I make another decision I'll regret.
Over the hill, mid life crisis, diagnosed as ADD (attention deficit disorder), hooked on car audio <--- not a healthy combination.

dvd audio sounds amazing, but I don't see it getting popular(really popular) any time soon. Any new technology requires the current generation to take to it, they seem more interested in mp3 and ipods for convenience sake more than quality. Unfortunately, I don't think dvd audio will become popular, I hope I'm wrong. My other problem with dvd audio in the car is the fact that it is so bloody expensive. I can get a home dvd audio player for 200.00 or less, but for the car they make it an elitist object. There is no reason why the technology can't be incorporated into a 300.00 unit and then maybe it will catch on. Just my two dollars.

I thought you were set on running the PXA-700 processor/eq. (2 channel processed > 5.1 surround) if you run the DVD-A , you don't need the processor. (processing is done in the recording ) But if the DVD-A player have a Aux input for 2/ channel for I-pods or changers etc. you could feed your clarion deck through that. and if the DVD-A player have PL-2 processing on board..then you're set.
You could always go to an Acura dealer to audition the TL. (DVD-A System) but show some interest on buying the car too tho...

Yeah, I went ahead and got the PXA H700. It's really cool. I really wanted to know if the difference in sound between CD's and DVD-A really is that significant. Acura dealer hear I come. I hope they have a DVD-A disc to demo the sound.
If it's as good as people say it is......... F1 status!!

DVD Audio is a great format; however, software is limited and expensive. I agree with Veeman, until the decks and software are more reasonable (and hey for $ 170 RETAIL you can buy a DVD Audio/Video SACD player), the public is going to stick with cheap (or free) music via MP3s. This is too bad, because Car Audio is the perfect environment for DVD Audio and SACD... hopefully, someone will clue in and make it reasonable.
