Hey guys,

I'm looking on some suggestions on where to find an affordable sound deadener (the mat kind). I was told to check Home Depot and Rona/Lansing, and neither of them had ever seen the stuff, at least not at the Burlington locations. I'd rather not buy from the US, but that's starting to seem like the best choice...

www.b-quiet.com

WD21 04-22-2005 06:11 PM

not sure if there still around but www.fatmat.com. 100sq feet of 45 mil for 100 bucks U.S. personaly i havent found anything cheaper except for DIY homeade stuff.(rubber matt and crazy glue is pretty cheap to buy and it can be bought localy, but not sure how good it is for sound deadening).

check out the b-quiet goods especially the brown bread and the extreme series deadner. stay away from the regular b-quiet as it comes off most surfaces fairly easily (its ok for floors).

I have have used Blue Skin. It is a industrial vapour barrier/ sound deadener, that is a asphalt mat like material. Works great and is dB Drag legal. Cost is $50 for 75sq/ft. :D

Walmart? What type of deadener do they sell? Is it actually marketed as sound deadener, or is it used for something else like roofing?

What "regular" b-quiet are you refering to? Taking a look at their site, they only have Ultimate and Extreme. Both of which I have found stuck on any surface I have put them on. Vertical or horizontal.

I have used the Home Depot stuff in the past. It is a rubber like substance with a blue backing that is used for roofing. It is no good for vertical surfaces. Very sticky until your first couple of hot days and then it all slides off.

The products currently offered by B-Quiet eclipse the original fare.

I love b-quiet, nice and easy.

strappingyounglad 04-24-2005 11:00 AM

Hmm, eDead in half the price of B-Quiet Extreme, and the same thickness as Dynamat Xtreme. Plus you can order any amount of it by the square foot. The only disadvantage is that you have to pay duty and brokerage as well as shipping. Does anyone know if B-Quiet is an American company?

</font>[/QUOTE]Oh, I remember. But I also remember that they haven't sold that stuff in at least 4-5 years. Is it fair that people are still basing their opinions on a product they havn't sold for so long?

And no Strapingyounglad B-Quiet is 100% Canadian.

Also I see alot of people comparing stuff based on it's thickness. This is no way to determine the effectiveness of a damping material, heck Dynamat Extreme is thinner than Dynamat Original, yet it is better. If the companies won't provide acoustic loss factors or transmission loss figures I would question their effectiveness.

Dereck Waller 04-24-2005 11:26 AM

I went to all the other damping company sites and couldn't find any actual specs other than thickness and weight. That's like buying an amplifier based on how it looks without knowing how much power it puts out into whatever load.

Mr. Marco 04-24-2005 12:13 PM

FatWacker,
dukk answered it for me.
however, i don't see where i have bad mouthed the company. my post actually sends business their way and i actually used Brown Bread myself and couldn't be happier with it! if you can afford it, its a spectacular product for an amazing price.

Dereck Waller 04-24-2005 12:50 PM

Well, Brown Bread is no longer available from B-Quiet, and your post is pretty vague, I think Fatwhacker was just clarifying that there is no "regular" B-Quiet anymore.

Tim Baillie. 04-24-2005 06:17 PM

There is a brand new line out called "Hushmat" it is truely amazing the adhesive on it, unlike anything I have seen in 15 years, it will stick to oily surfaces...................go figure.........and way cheaper the Dynamat or Cascade.............

Please explain more...

WD21 04-25-2005 01:30 PM

just went to Home Depot and they had a 5gal bucket of a product called Blue Seal, its a Waterproof rubber membrane. it seems pretty cheap($100 for the 5gal which will do 140sq feet) and you can brush or spray it on. it also expandes/contractes to heat/cold so i though that would be good for cars too.

has anyone used this stuff before, and had good results? and would it even work?

heres a site all about it:
