Also, 699 is a US price.
I've looked at the Alpine, I'm not interested. Just personal preference I guess.

699 was not American: "Suggested Price: CDN$699.00"

There has been at least one disscussion or more about Eclipse HU's on this forum, after particpating in at least one of them, I've decided to go the Eclipse way and purchase a CD7000.

The Premier has dual 16-band graphic EQ and the Eclipse has a 7-band parametric EQ. Does the dual 16-band make up for the fact that its graphic as opposed to parametric?
Both the CD7000 and the CD5000 have a 7 band Parametric EQ, but then you could also use an external EQ as well and use the internal EQ to adjust for your musical tastes.

The thing I like about Eclipse's is their key disk security, you can use any CD as a key disk, if power is disconnected from the deck, the deck is disabled untill the key disk is inserted.

The one thing I don't like about them is they don't have removable faces except for the very top and the very bottom of the line (CD7000 + CD1000). This of course, gives Freddy Freeloader all smiles as he thinks some dumbass has left his face on, then discovers the deck won't work after he has stole it. So he junks it and your out an expensive HU.

Interesting story about security here, but not related towards car audio, the other night, I took my puppy outside at 5 am to do his job and heard noises coming from the garage, well, here I was, in a housecoat and slippers, plus holding a puppy, quickly flip open the front door and quickly turn on the inside light to discover some pot smoking kid looking inside someone else's car with a flashlight ! (mine's outside), today there are locks front and rear....

If someone jacks your Eclipse within the first year they will overnight you a new one no questions asked from what I understand. Still have to pay the deductable for your smashed window/lock/whatever else they busted to get into your vehicle though.
The CD7000 is out of my price range for an HU. I still need money for speakers and subs.

Long and equal pathlengths are key to a good soundstage not time alignment.
I take it you drive your car from the back seat or stradled in the middle ??,
either way, I hope you have nice long legs and arms to reach the pedals and steering wheel.....

Most cars will likely have the rear deck and sub speakers farther away from your ear than the front speakers, so time alignment may play a factor here.

Friends and I used to think that way some years ago, to us, Alpine and Kenwood stuff was so-so, mainly because it was available everywhere and we wanted something different.

All and all, we ended up liking brands like Clarion, Coustic and Concord. Had a Concord HPL532 for years till it was stolen, replaced it with a CD70x which went with the old car when I traded for a newer one.

I have no idea what the warranty is for an Eclipse other than the ESN feature, and there is no mention on the website or in their product literature either, and when I last looked at them, I didn't ask either, go figure...

I was looking at the CD5000, then found out that it didn't have detachable face, a feature that I wanted (because of mindless twits that will steal anything), so I asked about the CD7000 and it was still within my range, so I went with that model.

Time Alignment has its place in car audio. It's been discussed/argued many times so just do a frickin search already and make your own conclusions on that. Personally, how many of us have the time (and sometimes space) available to get our cars to image great from both seats? How many of us care as it's our car so if we can make it sound great for OUR seat then that's what matters to us. I have never been in my car when I wasn't the driver and I've never had a girlfriend in the passenger side who would ever notice how the stereo imaged.

Eclipse's security: gee I kinda know a little about theft and anyone who's had a car broken into knows if they just lose their CD player they are lucky but it's the deductible, loss of car while it gets repaired/bodyshopped, glass replaced, etc. just because your deck was in plain view to steal. Do you think theives actually look to see what model/year Eclipse it is to see if it has the security feature? No they see an aftermarket deck and an opportunity. The loss of the deck is the small part to consider when your car gets broken into. A detach face is a MUCH better security feature. Knowing a theif may not be able to use your Eclipse **** after it is stolen is not going to make me feel much better when my vehicle is trashed, I loose it for a week at the shop, and when I ge tit back it will never be the same likely.

The P1 was easier to use than my Alpine 9835 was. Took forever to save any settings you wanted to change with the Alpine. Pioneer menu's could easily be memorized (I can still tell them to you off the top of my head even now after I sold the deck three years ago).

"If the 7-band EQ in the CD5000 isn't enough for you you can just add an external EQ": Yes, and it's just more money to spend and one more piece to bring noise into your system.

Reason for the price hike on the Pioneer 880's: Pioneer got backordered no them when they first came out because people realised what a great HU it was and for such an attractible price it flew off the shelves. Dealers marked up their remaining stock. Price will come back down shortly or just get one from the web where it can be had delivered for sub $400USD (and for God's sake please don't anyone start another "Internet purchasing is bad" reply).

That's what the sales guy said anyways. He's building an all Eclipse car and put the 5000 in so I would assume he knows the warrenty.

I agree. That's what they said about my Sirius radio. "Oh, If it get's stolen they can't use it." That's reasuring. I still have to pay the deductable on a new window, lock, anything else they busted and/or jacked and a new Sirius radio. . That's the part I don't like about the Eclipse.

Alright, and after calling around to confuse things even more I can get both HUs for almost exactly the same price ($1 difference). I'm thinking of flipping a coin before I flip out myself.

mr2nr, i find your statement about pioneer being more profitable interesting being that in most markets eclipse is at the very least semi exclusive, perhaps this isnt the case in your market, perhaps a cloud of neverending sunshine is parked above your store where pioneer, that is sold at most nationals and practically everywhere else, is more profitable than your, and i may very well be wrong here, exclusive eclipse. im still kinda laffing at the start great end great thing, nice choice of words. either way how would you prefer i put my money where my mouth is
