You will need to fill out a ESN change of ownership form, this way the cd player will be registered in your name and not the former customers. After this is done, the dealer will be give a new digital encyption code to blank your cd player, then you can code it with one of your cd's. Contact Jestar Canada at 514-745-8030 for directions to your nearest dealer.
But I believe the transfer of ownership must be initiated by the seller, not the buyer. You can't just walk in with an eclipse, say you are the new owner, and get the esn paperwork done. I have seen eclipse take certain documentation as proof of ownership if the original owner did not initiate the paperwork(like if somebody was insane enough to leave an eclipse in a car that they traded in). The car dealer's paperwork showing the former owner's name/address has been sufficient.

SOME of the 03 Eclipse 8 series have had ESN issues(not being unlocked when the key cd is put in, etc), but it is easily unlocked with a 5 minute phone call to Eclipse(and then you should talk to your dealer about getting your deck replaced/repaired if it is a big issue for you).

Eclipse is aware of the issue, and I believe they have a fix for it(and have started fixing decks not yet sent out). Again, it doesn't affect all of the 03 8 series decks, just some of them.

The change of ownership is initiated by Eclipse or the dealer, not the customer, we have the documentation given to us to do this change. Before the unit can be registered and a new code given out it needs to be verified that it is not stolen, thus the original owner info is already known.

So if I go to an eclipse dealer and i say I want the ownership transfered do I just give them my info and then they contact the original buyer to make sure its not stolen?

I would think you would contact the original owner and have them transfer ownership to you through Eclipse/local dealer.

I seriously doubt Eclipse is going to start contacting former owners to get the paperwork done. That responsibility lies on the seller of the deck imo.

Sure, I just don't think it is very slack, atleast here in the States. I could be wrong.
