were not talking about one deck, some decks are designed kinda funny(clarion video screens). On a good day our bay installs up to twenty decks, so we see every problem possible.
theres no H/U that has a grounding strap for RCA's, back in the 80's phoenix gold made RCA's with an extra ground lead of the shield.
What kind of deck do you have that has three grounds? Pioneer AVIC series?
And the proper name is engine noise.at least thats what I've heard it called for the last 20 years. Maybe im wrong

Circuit design of the Pioneer cd player. There is a small 1/4 amp fuse that is blown on the bottom of the circuit board. Either send the unit in for service or ground the shield of the rca cables at the cd player end.

i've got this same problem, just can't listen to the stereo anymore
i originally thought this was a problem from the HU internally, older 9805 alpine
i added an extra ground strap from the chassis and that didn't help
can someone post a pic or a link to some good isolators?
would three sets be needed if i'm using three rca's?? (two for the speakers, one for the sub)
thanks

^ engine noise because the noise changes freq with the RPM of the engine.... although most ppl call it 'alternator whine' because the alt is what is actually making the magnetic noise being picked up by our equipment....
Check out David Navone - Car Audio Engineering they have more then one fix from ground chokes, RCA transformers, PSUs with active suppression, and the best fix a psu with floating ground...

tried grounding the rca's, it only lowered the level of the engine noise meaning the noise was not as loud as it was before, but it still is evident that i have the problem, really pissing me off, so right now the deck is out the dash until i can find a suitable replacement, either the excelon 990 eclipse 5000 or the excelon dvd, no more pioneer (unless it's free.)
