I’ am looking at putting a farad capacitor in my chev . I have a Sony Xplode and 2 subs and 2 amps, one for the subs and the other is the speakers 2 in front and 2 in the back .now I was told to put a cap on the system by the future shop techy . He said put a 1 farad cap in. my buddy has a power acoustik PCX20F 20 farad digital power capacitor. Could I use this one or is it to big? This was my brothers vehicle and it was given to me by him before he past on. So I have restored it and I’ am putting the interior together now that the paint is done. I will check the size of the amps and speakers and post back.

 

a 20 Farad would be over kill for that system, I would recommend a 1 Farad cap and possibly a Big 3 as well...

a 20 Farad would be for a huge system with numerous amps.

 

1 farad will do 1000watts rms so 20 farads = 20 000 watts rms. If you use that 20 farad cap it may actually hurt your system because it will be robbing voltage charging the cap instead of using that electricity power to your system.

 

Do the big three before you spend money on a cap.

 

what is a big 3 .I also have a 2 and 8 farad could i use the 2 in steed of the 1 farad cause future shop wants 99$ for a 1 and my buddy hasn't opened his 2 or 8 there still in the box and he only payed 55$ each for them?

 

ya a 2 will be fine that is what I run, the big 3 is just upgrading the wire running from the alt to bat, bat to ground and another one I forget.

 

Put 1 farad cap in, and do the big 3 if you want, google that, there's a lot of info on that.

 

the third ground would be engine block to chassis.
