Ok guys,

I have gone through alot of different companies and looked at many different amps and after alot of research I have found out I hate amps. I have looked into getting Arc amps and for my system its gonna cost me over $2500CDN for 3 amps to power my whole system......too much money. Then I looked at Autotek Mean Machine Amps and I found I could get the MX-5000 and MX-4500 for around $1400CDN, but the MX-5000 is about 2 feet long so scrap that. Then I looked into eclipse and I really never got pricing on any of the stuff or found a good place to buy them. I would love to run eclipse amps with my TiPro so if anyone knows where to get them let me know. After reading some posts on other forums I came to like MMATS amps and I emailed them and found out there was a distributor in canada but all i was given is a phone number and im too annoyed right now to bother to call. The MMATS amps seem really awesome and I would love to run them, but finding them is another story. So after all this I came back to Tsunami amps, they are built by avionixx so they are of pretty good quality I would assume. Now I am thinking of ordering these within the next 2 weeks but I am not sure if I can find something for around the same price that will be better for my setup. IF anyone has any feedback to give me on any of the stuff I listed above it would be very appreciated.

PS - I am looking for around 2400 wrms @2ohms for my sub and 2 x 170 @4ohms for my components.

AAAAAAA 07-11-2003 11:05 AM

Id suggest to look into used JBL amps. They are great bang for the buck. And they sell for next to nothing on the used seen.

Orion_95 07-11-2003 11:07 AM

mmats = :eek: $$$$

Derek Jerome 07-11-2003 11:13 AM

what's your budget ....how many channels do you need and what power are you looking for for each chanel and what impedance will these channels be driven at

let me know, I'll do some research and make some suggestions

also tell me what brands are common in your area

Bulldogger 07-11-2003 11:17 AM

actually get a hold of pual at http://www.perfect-tones.com

tell him what you want power wise and how much you can spend .........I'm sure he can set you up

oh yeah and I'd shy away from a 2500 watt amp that isn't 2 feet long you need LOTS of heatsink area on an amp that big or it'll just heat up and shut down

2 8's AKA Jeepbeats 07-11-2003 11:47 AM

Talk to Jon at GCA, he has some nice deals on some mono-block amps right now, Tsunami I believe.

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 12:06 PM

Hey guys thanks for all the quick replies. As much as it would be nice to run a single amp on my TiPro I think running 2 seperate amps would be better. In this case I was thinking of running 2 1200-1400 wrms x 1 @1ohm amps. The sub has quad 2 ohm voice coils. I am looking to spend as little as possible but I have set my budget between 1500-2000 for the 3 amps. I have talked to Jon about the tsunami amps and I have talked to Paul from perfect tones about the arc audio amps and in the end the tsunami amps are my best option right now. That is until one of you guys finds me a better option;). I definitely would love to run some MMATS nickel colored amps.....damn there sexy looking. The only downfall I see with USamps is they are current hogs. I wouldnt mind running 1 2000 or 2 1000x's and the matching component amp from them for the right price;).

What do you all think?

So Far
-CDT HD-642 3-way set 170 x 2 wrms
-Eclipse Sw9182TiPro 3000 wrms(most likely run less)

Derek Jerome 07-11-2003 12:31 PM

the tsunami's are decent ........did you ask paul about poweracoustik or visionink or something like that ........they seem to be pretty cheap price wise

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 12:34 PM

I want to run something that is gonna give me good power, awesome sound quality and make my sub pound. This is all going into a daily driver so im not going for huge SPL scores. I would rather spend more money on something that is gonna do the sub and components justice than crap out on the amp and have it sound awful.

does 2000 watts into 2 ohms mono or 3400 watts at 1/2 ohm for comps

talk to paul, he's a rep/dealer

It doesnt have a matching class A/B amp.....too bad though.

Derek Jerome 07-11-2003 12:51 PM

you want my honest opinion .....if you want good sq you're gonna have to spend some bucks on a good brand name like mtx, eclipse, mmatts, PG, JL, ect...

most real cheap class d amps are kinda dirty sounding ........
I'd drop my power requirments back to a single 1200-1500 watt class d amp and a matching 100 -150 watt x 2 high end amp

an mtx thunder 942 & matching 1501d would make a nice combo

as would say a rockford bd1500 and 800a2 ........

a memphis st1500D and matching st300 would also be nice

since this is a daily driver 120-1500 watts would be more than enough to drive you out of your car

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 01:00 PM

I hear ya man, I know most people would be due with 1 12 and like 400 wrms but I like my stuff loud. I purchased these components for a reason and that was to use them to there full potential in a daily listened system. I wouldnt mind shelling out the cash for some MMATS amps or Eclipse or even JL. the problem im finding right now is getting a good enough deal on the amps that I want. If I could run 2 JL 1000/1's and a 300/2 I would get that for sure. I dont want to settle for less than 2000 wrms for the sub and for the components its really just an issue of getting the cleanest signal to the speakers, I want them to sound sweet. Alot of people run Rockford or MTX which is why I want to stray away from those amplifiers, I like to be different ;) .

Say I dropped it down to 2000 wrms for the sub and 150 x 2 for the component set. What would you recommend? Do you think im asking too much for $1500-2000CDN to pick up these amps?

Paul Niwranski 07-11-2003 01:08 PM

Mmats comes out of Korbon up here - wander into any Rockford dealer (aside from FS) and they can probably get you pricing. Big money.

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 01:13 PM

When you say BIG MONEY how much are we talking brand new for say the 1400.1 (300HC)?

this is what I got direct from MMATS themselves

Please contact Pez at 1-905-567-1920 in Canada and they will be happy to
> >help you. Our DHCx2200 will be available to them in about 2 weeks and
> >retails for approx $1,299 U.S.

Paul Niwranski 07-11-2003 01:19 PM

Pez is the Sales Manager for Korbon. He's cool but all he will give you is a dealer in your area most likely.

D300HC - been a couple years but something like $1800 sounds familiar..

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 01:21 PM

Seriously?

You can pick up 300HC's now for like $400Us shipped although they are used.

DUKK - What would be your suggestions for amps?

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 02:16 PM

I really need your help guys, I want to order my amps within the next week or 2. Having this beautiful sub sitting here in my basement is killing me because I cant play it. Give your suggestions or if you yourself can get me amps that would suit my setup let me know.

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 04:30 PM

Anyone?

Pridefcf 07-11-2003 04:48 PM

i have a modded MMats D300HC id be willing to part with for the right price if interested!

Derek Jerome 07-11-2003 04:58 PM

you'll save a lot of cash if you go used ....1800 sounds about right for the mmatts new ..........

see if you can find a couple mtx 8100d's cheap

or a pair of jbl 1200.1's .....something like that

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 05:11 PM

I dont want to go the cheap route with the amps dodge. I want to spend a good chunk of money and get good amps to give my setup good clean power. I think the best way is to say what amps would be best for my component set and then from there see which have matching sub amps I could use for my sub. any suggestions for that sort of thinking?

Derek Jerome 07-11-2003 05:26 PM

I was trying to say I don't think you'll get 2kw of power and a front stage amp for 1500-2000 dollars .......I think the arc setup was pretty good for that price .........

mtx 8100d's ran 1000 each new .......as did rf bd1000's ........

as for front stage amps I like mtx, jl, PG, lightning audio storm series, memphis, concept, arc, xtant, ect.......

you say you don't want to go cheap on amps, but you want a 150 watt per channel front amp and 2kw of sub power and they got to match and you want em to be somewhat "hi-end" and not something common (common=cheap prices)..........but then you don't want to spend 2500 bucks .......I still say make it one nice front stage amp with the power you want and then get 1 1500 watt class d amp ......... that matches your budget much more realistically

go for the tsnami's .......you'll probably be happy

another one I think would suprise most people is that 165watt per channel sony and 2 1000 watt p5 mono sony's .......should all come in around 1500 ..........

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 06:46 PM

I dont mind buying amps used as long as they are in perfect condition. If the tsunami setup can be had for less than $1400CDN to my door then why do you feel its so unreasonable to think that there should be other companies with this power available for this price. Ill probably end up getting the tsunami amps just because it seems like my best option right now. I wouldnt mind going with Arc if the prices werent so steep for them brand new. All the amps have to be matching because im building up an all around show car and mismatched amps would just look really stupid. I could probably get the clarion amps for fairly cheap if that would work?

I just really want some input and maybe help finding a good deal for amps. I dont want the common MTX, rockford and kicker that everyone has. I want to have high-end stuff that only real car audio enthusiasts would know about.....things like CDT and eD. The few requirements that I have are the power, look, quality and price.

Power- 150-170 x 2 @4ohms
2000-3000 wrms @ 2ohm final load

look - Prefered Black and grey/gunmetal with blue lighting

quality - high quality signal, shouldnt have to worry about warranty because it is high quality.

Price - $1500-2000CDN

Derek Jerome 07-11-2003 07:20 PM

that's what I was getting at .........there is absolutly nothing wrong with tsnami , but it's not a "high end" brand by any means .........it's considered down there with mtx, rockford, kicker, sony, kenwood, ect (there's nothing wrong with any of those brands, I'd buy one tomorrow if I was in the market).....

if you want something that performs well and and offers good bang for the buck , get the tsunami .........

you want oooh factor from the car audio guys you got to pay

JL, PG ti series, xtant, arc, linear power, soundstream(well older soundstream)

as for what I'd get for a front stage right now I honestly don't know .......... I havn't looked for a front stage amp since I got my soundstreams

the last 2 that have cought my eye were the mtx thunder 942 (lots o power) and the lightning audio storm series amps .........but I doubt you'd be interested in either of those 2
;)

you want some wow factor look at the JL and PG amps ......but they won't be any cheaper than the arcs I'm sure...

actually I was reading a car audio mag today and these caught my eye ........if I wanted to spend a few bucks I'd get 2 of them for my front stage

pinhead 07-11-2003 07:36 PM

shouldn'nt you have names the post
i want something i can't afford
you know i really want my z06 vette
but i'll have to wait a while
oh ya and a year long vacation that will have to wait a while too
looks like i have to deal with reality

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 08:28 PM

Does anyone know how much a JL 1000/1 retails for in stores around toronto? I guess im gonna have to do some digging or settle for Tsunami amps. What would you say are the draw-backs that dont make the tsunami amps high-end?

scarlemthug 07-11-2003 09:20 PM

Do you think this would be a good amp or not for my setup?

http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/cgi/...c;f=2;t=003293

Derek Jerome 07-12-2003 04:23 AM

yeah that hammer is a nice amp

I don't see any drawback to using tsunami it's good stuff........... it just doesn't have the wow factor you said you're looking for

IMO the high end amp stuff is crap ......... all that matters are features(such as signal processing) and power output into the impedance you are driving

you'd have a hard time telling a sony from a brax if you didn't know what was in the trunk .......

it seems what makes an amp "high end" is how expensive it is ...........

Paul Niwranski 07-12-2003 07:10 AM

^ Nice to see Dodge and I feel the exact same way about amps...

The only things I care about in an amp:
-Does it have the power I want at the impedence I will show it?
-Is it reliable?
-Do I like the looks?

As long as it fits those criteria and my budget then I don't care what the badge says.

If I was buying an amp today I would be considering:
MTX
Coustic
Concept
Rockford
Memphis
Kicker

Although for the price, those Sony amps Dodge mentioned work very well, are reliable, and you can bet that if you have 3-4 in your trunk that you won't find many other similar setups ;)

scarlemthug 07-12-2003 11:48 AM

What do you think of the Arc Kar series of amplifiers? I may go with that because I fond an awesome deal on them.

I feel the same way as you 2 do, I am just a little more picky. As long as it has enough power at the right load impendance, fits my budget and catches my eye than i would buy it. The only thing that I dont like is having something that everyone else has or can buy at there local futureshop.

Derek Jerome 07-12-2003 12:48 PM

arc is good stuff .........seems to have a high end "air" to it like you wanted ;)

scarlemthug 07-12-2003 01:15 PM

It's not the "high end" part that im looking for. I am looking for something that will produce slightly over its rated power, sound really accurate and smooth for the sub and produce the mids and highs with some warmth. Hopefully the deal goes through and ill finally be able to almost complete my system. What would you guys suggest for a good deck. Right now I have a panasonic 602U and im definitely gonna be looking to upgrade. Right now I am looking at a higher end eclipse deck, the new JVC 9750 or maybe a in-dash screen. What decks offer awesome SQ and good useful features?

Along with the amps im probably gonna be getting the PEQ7 from Arc. Do you think its worth it to get it?

Paul Niwranski 07-13-2003 09:03 AM

I am sure the Arc is a great sounding amplifier.

scarlemthug 07-13-2003 11:59 AM

Ok I am pretty sure im gonna get the Kar 1000.2T(x2), 1 440.4 and the PEQ7. What would you recommend as a good deck, good size Alt and soudn deadening for my car. Also does anyone know agood place for pricing on stinger wiring products?

Deck: Alpine/Eclipse or others

Sound deadening: Brown Bread from www.b-quiet.com

scarlemthug 07-13-2003 12:46 PM

I was thinking of getting 70 sq ft. of brown bread but I was concerned whether or not it would be enough to cover the car. I would be doing the entire trunk and doors. I am not sure where else would be worth it, any suggestions? I am installing this in a civic coupe. For decks I like the eclipse decks but I am also looking for a little flash with the deck. Alpine's are really nice too but it seems like there top of the line decks all use the green/amber backlighting which isnt my taste. I was looking at getting the new JVC 9750 deck because it seems to have alot of useful features and also has some flash to it.

2 8's AKA Jeepbeats 07-13-2003 02:08 PM

I picked up 35 sq. ft. of the BrownBread as part of the Group Buy last month for my Jeep Yj. I had enough to do almost 2 full layers on the front tub area, from the firewall back to the driver/passenger seats, enough to cover both of my doors (they are quite small) and enough to do a layer in the back, underneath my back seat. Hope this helps!
