Lol, so a 15" sealed = a 12" ported? I'll keep that in mind.

And a 15" sealed would be louder you say?

Next thing I'll be told is that having JL adds 3 db...

a 12'' in a ported box should have close to the same output as the 15'' in the sealed box what part dont you understand so I can explain more?

say the 15 in a sealed box hits 100db you keep the power and impedence the same and switch to the 12'' in a sealed box you chould drop to 97-98db due to the loss in cone area now you add a tuned port to the 12'' this will add minimum 3db which brings output to 100-101db now you can measure the distance from the woofer to your head or where the mic will sit plug the figures into a calculator with the right fomulas and you will have the proper tuning fq for the car you can now adjust the length of the port to get the output 15db+ higher then the 100bd the 15 hits in the sealed box or the 101db the 12'' will hit in the basic ported box.

Thats a great theory, if you could prove that in a practical situation I'd be MORE than willing to witness it.

In the meantime, I'm thinking about selling my 12" DD since I can just buy a RF P3 15" and save room going sealed with the same output.

funny you say that I currently have an SPL box I made for a single MTX MXS1204 7'cuft on my show room floor and it is louder then every dual 10'' ported box we have this is also running off half the RMS wattage as the dual 10'' boxes too.

Come check it out if you doubt me I have been building and competeing in DB comps for 8yrs and have quite a few awards for box design.

Oh I'm the Install Lead at Future Shop in Belleville so not to far from you.

Congrats, you topped some prefab boxes that aren't build to specs or tuned for the subs you have in them.

Future Shop? you must know how to do a pro install them :sarcasm:

Theory and Practicality are 2 completely different things. Basically what you're saying is say I have a DD 10" sealed and I happen to hit 149db, you're theory means that doubling power, porting the box and throwing another DD in there will gain me exactly 9db, which would give me one hell of a World Record in Street A with an impressive 158db... Go try that.

And I can assume you're 8 years of "db comps" do not include an actual league such as db Drag, correct? Whats you're top score with what gear...

wow you are taking everything I say out of context thats for sure people on this site like to argue about everything wow no wonder that these are my first posts in over a year.

the box I topped is the sledge hammer made by MTX with two MTX MXS1004's it is made to spec for the woofers.

The point I was making is you dont have to get a bigger sub to play louder period. I never said if you double power you increase 3db and if you increase cone surface you will gain 3db did I?.

I said if you tune the box to the car you can gain alot more output from the 12'' then you will get from the 15'' in a sealed box with the same RMS power and if you dont agree thgen you sir need to build some more boxes.

I said I work at FS in Belleville so you know where to find me not to brag *** and yes I have built show winning cars, cars that have been featured in PAS mag, cars that have held records in Usac and Iasca SQ and SPL so whats you point?.

The double power, double cone area rules go hand in hand with you're porting = 3db increase, same (so people think).

I cease to care anymore though, since I realized I'm arguing with a Future Shop employee. You are the one breed of people that can really brighten up my day when I'm glum. Nothing like hearing something so stupid that it actually makes you happy.

I havent competed in 5yrs and my top score was 156.5db with a single quad MMATs Juggernaut 15'' and 4 factory modded MMATTS amplifiers it was actually a canadian record for almost 1yr. The big project I worked on was a ford ranger with 2 MMATTS quad 15''s and 8 MMATTs amps it held the world record for the whole season but was beat out at the spring break nats where it placed 2nd with a 164.8 in super street 1-2 NW.
