Very nice my friend, Very nice indeed... It is another work of art al a Dave.

Paul Niwranski 05-11-2005 01:51 PM

Nice. See now, there ya go Dave - pretty much what we were talking about in the $1000US install thread. Well, A-pillars and a processor too, lets say $1400US.

Fr0z3N 05-11-2005 02:07 PM

Wow thats a bigass trunk lol.

defro13 05-11-2005 02:16 PM

1400 for labour on that job, yeah right

Paul Niwranski 05-11-2005 02:29 PM

Hey - I said US...

Just funning Dave - I know you guys won't do a job for that kind of money.

MR2NR 05-11-2005 07:00 PM

Mo money, mo money, mo money.... show me the money....

Terry Alberts 05-11-2005 07:06 PM

Curious what the tag on labour really was....
How did you account for the 3 days to build it? ;)

SUX 2BU 05-12-2005 08:13 AM

I like the overall design. Simplicity with some class. That's how I like my installs to be.

If I had to nitpick on some things, I suppose I could. But being a competition-borne, high caliber/budget install, some constructive criticism is expected.

Overall I do like it though and you said pics were going to be up like 2 weeks ago!

defro13 05-12-2005 08:34 AM

still have to put the grill over the woofers and make tweeter grills, besides that its ready to go and sounds very good, with time to tune it over the next few months and get some presentation experience under her(the owners) belt, this car should be something to contend with

JRace 05-12-2005 09:06 AM

What is that behind the stock grills in the back seat?

MIKEONE 05-12-2005 09:19 AM

alpine f#1 processor i believe...

PEI330Ci 05-12-2005 09:36 AM

^Yup

defro13 05-12-2005 09:37 AM

Can't wait to see her in the lanes. Very nice Stuff Dave. Someone deserves a flat of crest fot that!

defro13 05-12-2005 03:06 PM

i couldnt agree more my bootlegging buddy

veeman 05-12-2005 03:36 PM

Excellent as usual! I love the simple (relatively) angular style as opposed to the rolling hills of the fibre glass generation.
If I ever decide to get a pro install, I will make the cross Canada drive to your shop and leave it with you. I like your installs that much!!Can't wait to see some more.

defro13 05-12-2005 06:55 PM

thanks veeman, if you are ever out this way, drop on in i'll have a cold crest for you

Team_Obsession 05-12-2005 07:10 PM

is that hole in the speaker grill finished, and is that ABS plastic around it? looks pretty decent otherwise.

defro13 05-12-2005 09:10 PM

the pics were taken before the plastic was really cleaned up and hit with the heat gun. there is a grill cloth cover that clips over each factory grill

MaxPower 05-12-2005 09:47 PM

Are you going to fix the rest of the deficiencies in the pictures?

defro13 05-12-2005 10:07 PM

no, i thought that i would leave the woofers and tweeters without grills and would leave the dash bezel the wrong color, like i said earlier, these are almost finished pics, we still need a day to finish it, but the owner needed the car for a trip that she had to take. tomorrow the car is back to finish it up

TomK 05-13-2005 06:33 AM

Why the seam in the material where the tweeter is ???

defro13 05-15-2005 11:05 AM

the seam was necessary becasue of the inside curve. it gets pretty hot here in the summer and they will get hit all day in the sun and i didnt want the vinyl to lift. i have tried every glue on the planet and nothing that i have ever used would have held, so the seam had to be used

battyrida 05-15-2005 12:58 PM

lookin good bro! Nice work as usual!

But why hide such a sexy processor? Convince your client to show it :D .

LOL

The car looks great.

Just wondering how much room the kick panels take up.

defro13 05-15-2005 03:53 PM

there was just no room for the processor that allowed us to keep the hatch area flat. it was a tough decision to hide but there was no choice.

the kick panels do take up some room but we wanted to get .35 sealed so we cut as much metal as we could and did what we had to to get the desired airspace

WD21 05-15-2005 07:38 PM

so how much time went into that car? how much in labor? By the way another 'ing install and car...

defro13 05-15-2005 07:40 PM

was built in 2 weeks, do the math on the labour

MaxPower 05-16-2005 08:45 PM

TWO weeks??? Eighty hours of labour?? Doing what? I think one week would be plenty.

I hope your shop rate is not more than $20 an hour. Otherwise that 80 hours adds up to too much for that install.

defro13 05-16-2005 10:09 PM

you my friend had best get a grip on what it takes to do an install that requires every wire to be techflexed and mounted every 6" as well as sound deaden the entire interior including floor and ceiling and inner and outer doors, as well as fab a new battery tray out of aluminum, powder coat it. do a nice distribution block mount. you can duct tape and half ass you jobs, we dont, and i charge 50/hour and have no problem getting it. if you could build that exact install in one week, i would supply you with the car, the shop all the materials and all the gear and 5 8 hours days to do it by yourself. im not kidding , bring it on big shot, put your skills where your mouth is chump, otherwise, you are just another big mouth that hasnt shown one ounce of your install ability but feels qualified to pass judgement on something you have no ability to do yourself, until such time as you either show something or take me up on my offer, you comments are worthless

Tim Baillie. 05-16-2005 10:22 PM

Dave, funny you should start busting his balls for his comments considering you pretty much did the same thing to me...............just a little more subtle.............but just as incinuating...................funny huh..........

AudioVault 05-17-2005 12:04 AM

Everyone is allowed to have an opinion, If i got pissed at everyone that came across with a snide remark I would have a coronery. Relax who cares what people think or say. Everytime you respond your just pissing gas on the fire.Did you ever think that they just might be doing it because you react the way you do.

defro13 05-17-2005 01:47 AM

tim totally different, i simply asked a question, and never insinuated that you overcharged, besides, htat not busting your balls at all

audiovault, you very well may be right, i always like to err on the side of over reaction, although in this case, i dont think i did, i just gave him a option to back up him statements

Starterwiz 05-17-2005 05:55 AM

Nice job Dave, cept for the seam....do you use Helmatin/Helmaprine adhesive?
I've never had that stuff come off even over 200 degrees.

Damn...I hate that.....two weeks doing a perfect job, and one thing to criticize is all we see.

Do you do your own sewing? I've got some pants that are a bit long.
Just razzin ya.... That's a nice install for 2 weeks. Wish I was that fast.

defro13 05-17-2005 07:28 AM

i have used lots of glue but never that type, but i will give it a shot. over the years i have really gotten to like the baseball seam, i dunno, just me. we have our sewing done by gordons upholstery, we just found out that he has cancer and will be going in to surgery tomorrow to remove a tumor from behind his left, ive noticed it for years but obvi;sly didnt say anything, maybe i should have, if you arent a fan of the baseball seam you isnt gonna like the neon, with the material we used(didnt even stretch one way) there was alot of seams required, but in my car that type of seam is all over the seats from factory so it will be alright

GRNDPND 05-17-2005 08:22 AM

The Car looks fine. But funny how the subject says "finished 05 celica pics" and now when people point out the flaws it now convieniently needs touchs ups..

Why not post the final pics and not take so much heat. Or change the subject to "almost final pics"

Trunk look Ok, tweeters look horrible with that seam. Why not mount it some place else or use a smaller tweeter. Nicer screws in the tweeter would have made sense also.

Dereck Waller 05-17-2005 09:48 AM

Well the grilles (when they go on) should cover the ugly tweeter screws. I personally like the baseball stitching, but to me I don't like the placement of it. If it didn't go under the tweet I would like it better. Another product to try for gluing inside seams (or anything for that matter) is Select Products heat activated glue. It gets plenty hot here (I would say the same or hotter than the Okanogin) but it is dry, so my experience may ot be totally indicative of what would happen there. But I hear alot of shops in the southern U.S. use it, and it never comes apart there, and it is way hotter and humid that Kelowna down there.

Also it is the stuff you can't see that takes time, that's what matters to true professionals, sure any half good installer could slap an install that looks exactly like that together in a few days, but how long would it last and how good would it sound? Also how well would it do in a competition? Probably not very well. The main thing to remember with posting pics of competition cars on the net, and getting brutally honest opinions is that you can use them to maybe change things before a judge ever gets to see it. Heck If I would have seen Gary Biggs car before finals I could have told him his fiberglass seat inserts were crooked! :D

SUX 2BU 05-17-2005 09:56 AM

I thought baseball stitching used a herringbone style of stitch? I think a new Audi or something uses that kind of stitching and it doesn't look like that. Why wouldn't the stuff stretch? Is it vinyl or leather? Even leather will stretch if you steam it.
