First Post , First Question (chosing a sub)
#1
Hey,
So I just registered on the board. I'm kinda new to car audio, I am trying to uild a nice, yet basic audio setup. Curretnly I have a Panasonic HU (I want to change it though), 6.5'' infinity reference components, pioneer 6X9 (i'm getting rid of those as soon as I get my subwoofer) and I just bought a Rockford Punch 301s amp. All of this in a 92 honda civic Hatchback.
I don't really know what I'm looking for, I want sound quality but I still want it to be loud and to be heard a bit. So I am looking for a new subwoofer. The amp that will power up the sub is a Rockford 2004 Punch 301s. The amp pushes 300WRMS X 1 @ 4 ohm. I would like to have suggestions on which subwoofer to use with that amp.
I thought about MTX thunder 5500 10'' SVC 4 ohm and Kicker Solobaric L5 8'' DVC 2 ohm.
I've heard pretty good things and pretty bad things about the solobarics so I don't know if they are good or not
I don't really know what kind of box to use however, I am sure I can fabricate a sealed enclosure myself so I'm kind of leaning towards this option to save costs and to make it look exactly like I want it to look like, but I don't really know if a sealed box would be appropriate.
Any help will be welcome
thanks a lot

hmm well the best advice i cna give you. is listen. every one has deiffrent like's about thier sub's. no one will give you the answer you want. it's your music, so it should be what you like for sound, be it SQ or SPL. sq is if you like a real clean sounding bass and spl is the kind of bass that people can here from 2 block's away. i have to say i'm guilty of music being heard from 2 blck's away. lol

personally i have 2 12" RF HX2's in a custom box made by A-Team. those thing's can be heard atleast a block away. and i only have the volume at half and the bass at 0 and the bass *** at min. so if you have a good deck, amp, and box. pretty much any sub can be loud. just not any sub that will cost you 50 buck's brand new. they won't give you what you want for bass. take me for an example. i bought 2 jensen sub's for a 100, buck's. sounded like ****, but costed veryy little, so pay the extra bit and get sub's that sound nice

the amp I bought is a rockford punch p301s. 300 W RMS X 1 @ 4 ohm.
Daily basis, I listen to rock, punk rock, hardcore and sometimes a bit of hip-hop
I want it to be loud but still have a good quality.
around 200 $
