First setup
Hi folks, I'm new to both this forum and car audio in general. I would appreciate any input. I have a small budget and unfortunatley I found this forum after I already purchased a head unit. I bought a Sony GT300 and because of my low budget can only buy one set of speakers off the bat. For my price range I have my eyes on a pair of Sony 6.5" 4-Way Speakers (XSV1642A). My first question...is that an alright starter setup, or should I try and find better speakers,(what would be better for the same price) and secondly would I be better off sq wise to install those in the front doors of my car or should i purchase the same series 6x9's for the back? Basically I needed a cheap upgrade from factory and wanted comfirmation that I'm going in the right direction.
My car is a 98 Honda Civic Hatchback and the music I most listen to is rock, so bass is not a big issue to me. Thanks in advance for any input guys!

There are plenty of better sets for the money. Avoid Best Buy or Future Shop, in my opinion, those "general electronic" stores have everything, but nothing good. Go to a car audio shop, and give them your budget and they will set you straight...

Heh I JUST got four 180W 3-way speakers from Futureshop for $100. I know that I could have probably gone to a car audio shop instead and got much better speakers, but for $100 I think four of any speaker is ok.
Then again i'm pretty cheap so don't listen to me if you actually want some quality speakers.
Edited because I said $200 instead of $100... Math is evil

Having said you are on a budget that setup is fine. Keep in mind a couple of things. You usually pay more for 4 and 3way speakers then 2way due to the fact they are more expensive to produce and the misconception that they sound better then 2 ways. I personal love the sound of a nice 2 way over a 3-4way. So having said that if you can find another brand close to the price of the Sony's and they are the 2way but you where leaning on the Sony's becuase they are 4ways....don't. What is your budget for these speakers. As some of us vendors on here might be able to score you up some pretty nice gear within your budget.

Yes he is right because I may have 3-way speakers but my cheap *** deck only lets me adjust the lows and highs... The only reason I got these 3-ways was because I got all four for $100! I said $200 in the last post but I meant $100! Yes $25 each!
I know they probably aren't top of the line but $25...
Here is the link tell me what you think of them.

thanks very much fellas for takin the time to respond and giving good advice...definately food for thought. My price range would be about 250$ if i were to hold of another month. I looked at some 2 way infinity 6012i speakers that were on sale from the future shop they were 180$ on for 99$. Would this be a good choice? Also because my car is a small one, would i benifit more investing in a 2 channel amp and just powering the front speakers and leaving the back stock speakers? Again, thanks for the input, being new to car audio, this can be quite overwhelming, so I apologise ahead of time for asking some pretty basic questions.
