Foam Surround

Hey guys I have an old pioneer 10" SVC Champion series 250rms sub and it has a foam surround. It hasn't been used for awhile and I was just wondering if there was something that you could do to 'condition' the foam, so it won’t crack and self destruct when I use it. The foam looks like it’s in good shape, I am just curious about what you do instead of replacing the surround if it were dry, but not damaged.

Not much you can do to prevent the elements from eating away at the foam, it will dissintegrate over time.
The surround can be replaced by a qualified person, I have seen DIY kits on the net, but if you don't know what you're doing don't do it. (dust-cap has to be removed to place shims in V.C gap)
Find the closest repair depot and send the woofer to them, I don't know anyone in N.B but maybe a local audio shop might?
Some of the members here may also be able to direct you.

Hey, thanks for the tip. I got the sub for free, so I doubt it would be worth spending money to fix it, and it’s not broken right now, I was just wondering if there was a way to prevent breakage of a foam surround.

Try some armor-all ?

anything made after the mid 90's should have foam that's resistant to rot anyway.. I probably wouldn't worry too much about it..
