Focal Polyglass 165 V.S. Morel Hybrid Clarus

Hey guys I was wondering which of these 6.5 speakers are better, the Focal 165 KR or the Hybrid Clarus.

I'm a newbie in Car Audio and I need some Input.

A local audio dealer is offering these two choices, as they are priced at around $500 which is in my budget.

I have listened to both sets of speakers and these are my impression.

Focals have a very clear hi sounds, and it seems very "alive" and pure.

The Hybrids Clarus was very dynamic in the mid-range and it was very solid.

Personally I prefer the Focals a little better because of the clarity in the higher tones. But the dealer told me that their amp for the Hybrid Clarus doesn’t have enough power to do justice.

Therefore I just want to ask for some inputs and advices from you guys.

All inputs are welcomed.

haven't heard the morel, but i have owned the polyglass 165.

they are a very nice speaker. $500 is a little on the high side though.

the bottom line is that you are the one listening to them day in day out.
if you like the focal's go with them. if not morel's are a good product as well.

Thanks for you input jstoner22.

Is $500 on the high side? I live in Toronto and the prices here are always a little high.

From what I have been reading on the forums, the longer you listen to the Focals the more irritating it becomes because of the constant high frequency. Is it true?

The dealer is recommending me an Arc Audio XXD 4080 amp, and a audio summing unit because I am keeping my OEM system.

Also I have a JBL amp with a 12inch punch subwoofer.

what's a Morel Hybrid Clarus? As far as I know, Morel does not make a hybrid clarus...Hybrid does, so not sure which speakers you're asking about. Morel makes the Hybrid ovation model. Anyway they are all good, but different sounding, so unfortunately you'll have to listen to them and decide which you like best.

Thanks for your response veeman.

Oh sorry. I thought Hybrid was made by Morel.

The dealer told me the speakers were Hybrid Clarus. I just googled pictures of the Hybrid Clarus and it matches to the ones I saw in the shop.

I guess the thread should be named "Focal Polyglass 165 vs Hybrid Audio Clarus" instead.

i found them a little bright for my liking. one of the reasons i run hertz now. i find they cause much less listeners fatigue.

and yes 500 is high in my opinion.

I've heard both and prefer the Clarus. The Focal is a tad bright for me. The Clarus is detailed and natural but not as bright.....better for the ears and less Advil

I believe Selective Sounds (located in Mississauga and a forum sponsor) sells and has both. Drop by for a listen.

If you are set on the Focal, give number1sound (in Toronto) a call. He has good pricing. Ask for George

Oh yea....Selective Sounds is hosting a car audio competition on June 28. Good chance to check out and hear a few different systems. 2c

Trust your ears.. listen to them both for a long time.. As well the Focals will sound their best in-car - and IMO only about 80% as good as they are on a demo board.

The Focals are definitely brighter on the board, but as I've mentioned it's personal preference...I like brighter speakers in general. The vehicle and install will ultimately determine overall SQ, as I've heard seemingly dull speakers sound very detailed and sparkling once installed and vice versa with bright speakers. All I can say is if you don't like them on the board, you probably won't like them in the car...so go listen to them with your type of music for as long as you can until you find one you like.

Actually the dealer I'm with is Selective Sounds.

I went there today and tested both sets speakers for maybe around half an hour.

From my first impression the Focals were very detailed in the high range and seemed very "alive" , but the Clarus had an amazing mid range and very solid.

As you guys suggest I'm afraid that the Focals are too bright and might hurt my head.

The Clarus didn't sound that great to me in the high range. Maybe it's because their amp wasn't powerful enough as they suggested.
