Frequency spectrum analyzer software???

Hi. I looked for similar thread and found nothing....

I need a spectrum analyzer that will display frequency spectrum of audio files (or direct output - I don't care)... but it has to display it in somewhat human rate and quality- no FFT.

I want to look at low frequencies and see what are the peaks- tired of looking on the net for 'low bass songs' and getting Da Blow as one.......

I found Spectrum Analyzer Pro Live- very nice soft- problem costs 110 bucks and no crack anywhere (Can't believe no one provided a crack for the license- really nice soft)

So what are you guys using? I'm sorry if im cheaping out, but thats the case....

My guess is you want to know what songs are gonna bang in your car. Use Audacity. Its free and after it plots the music as a wave you can highlight the second or two where your low note comes in and then determine the frequency. I think theres a way to change it to the actual note is musical terms as well

thanks for the response but not exactly what I'm looking for ... the spectrum analysis is nice, but not very informative

this usually can be done with winamp visualizations I was just hoping for some more nice solutions.....

edit: didn't realize the log scale provided by the software

I like how it plots the spectrum in log scale, with peak location- but I still rather use visualizations to give me that info in real time playback mode... the accuracy might be much greater (compared to guessing on the visualizations), but cant imagine going through random songs looking at where the bass hits since lows don't hit on my laptop (that's the main problem here)

edit2: nevermind- I can select up to 23 sec so its not a problem anymore! (I have to start thinking before I post responses)... thanks for help!

I used to have CD from EISA were every second or so sound got changed by +1 octave and you can have pretty good judgement of the system right away. It should be available online.

FFT is how it's done no matter the software. The fourier transform converts amplitude/time into amplitude/frequency which is your spectral display. What you want is one with fine resolution which is no problem with most software. You just have to adjust the frequency resolution.
