I curently have 4 gauge wire running from my battery with no fuse. My friend who works at a mechanic shop continues to warn me saying my car is going to burn down. I believe its possible but didn't bother with the fuse because some friends with SPL set ups also dont run fuses.

Should I be concerned?

some guys don't wear face shields when grinding metal parts, and goalies never used to wear face masks in hockey...I think you know what the safe thing to do is. Chances are you will never need it, but just in case...

And in the event that you do need it and it is not there, no insurance on your vehicle my friend. Put the fuse holder and fuse of the proper size in like right now.

if you're asking the question, you are obviously concerned about the matter, and a fuse is a insignificant price to pay to know that your investment in audio equipment is safe, as well as your vehicle...

Lose the fraction of a DB in SPL, and fuse the power wire.

The reason SPL competitors don't run a fuse is because it lowers your score. For a daily driving system though I would consider fuses a must!
