Gave back my audison Lrx 1.400 amp
WILL THIS WORK ? I heard A/B Class amps are the ones to get..

How about my Arc Audio XXK 1500? It is rated at 900 W RMS @ 4 ohm. It uses T circuitry which is much more efficient than any A/B amp, and you would never be able to tell the difference in sound. The Arc XXK amps aren't very common up here, and I know how much you seem to appreciate uncommon high-end equipment. Check it out at www.arcaudio.com.
Very nice amp and it has been used for all of 2 weeks. Email me at dan.b1@rogers.com if you want some pics.

Also, what amp do you guys recommend to power my BIG 8 sub fully ? What impedance should I use ? The sub is dual 2 ohm.

</font>
HMM. That looks a like a nice amp..but it's only rated at 450x1 @ 4ohms... I wouldnt wanna run it at 1ohm... </font>
Runs are 1ohm all day long without a hitch. Hardly gets warm.
There are Audison amps that can run ALL DAY at 1 ohm full power.
A VRx1.500 for example.
I have one in my car running 4 8" subs (4ohms each) all wired in parallel. The DC resistance of this setup is under 1 ohm. (0.87 ohms)
It is possible that the BIG 8 has a lower impedence than advertised. Usually though, the impedence listed for a driver is it's lowest impedence across all frequencies. Sometimes though, the impedence is listed as an average across the intended frequency range of use. This implies both lower and higher impedence swings across the frequency range.
Just keep in mind that the amp may not be to blame. I've seen an LRx1.400 powering 4 10" subs,(4 ohms each, connected in parallel)and that amp never cut out once.
Chris B brings a very good point up. If there is significant resistance in your power or ground wires, current will ramp up and voltage will drop when demand increases. Did you check the voltage at the amp power terminals with the volume cranked? If you are getting voltage drops below 12 volts, getting a MORE powerful amp is going to increase your problems.
Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience, but the shop seems to have done an admirable job of handling your frustration.
Good luck with the Zapco.
