Alright well i havent posted much here but here is the scoop on Gem-Sen who repairs kicker amps

THE BACKROUND OF AMP & PROBLEM
Well i had other amps in my car before anyways I bought a new one. I GOT kicker KX 400.1 That i bought at a pawnshop for 180 canadian and he gave me 30 day warranty if i had it installed. I put it in my car and it kept going into protection. I got a DVC 4ohm 15" rockford i wired it to 8 ohms and 2 ohms and amp kept going into protection.
It plays at very low volumes and goes into protection when u turn it up.

THE PROBLEM
Alright I took my amp to certified radio in edmonton alberta paid $30 dianostic fee for them to test the amp they said "CURRENT DRAW A LITTLE HIGH RETURN TO MANUFACTURE FOR SERVICE INFO" so they had to send it back to Gem-Sen and i had been in touch with them prior so why have a middle man and i need to stay within my 30 day warrantee cause i need to know if its worth fixing or taking back to pawnshop.

Gem-Sen tells me the amp is fine and they cant find anything wrong with it.

I PAID THEM a 20 dollar dianostic fee and 60 in tolal for shippin they shipped it back in the biggest box they could find... the box is like 2 feet by 2 feet by a foot and half, you coulda thrown the box on the freeway and it could have been plowed my a semi and many cars and the amp would still be fine....

Now i put it in my car SAME PROBLEM so i decide just to hop over to the futureshop install bay and get installer to take peak he said all my wiring was ok... and said he thought it must be the sub if they said the amp was ok...

Now today I go back to Certified radio Asking for my Money back for my dianostic fee anyways to make a long story short they brought out a sub wired to 4 ohms and the amp still went into protection they said all my wiring is fine and it has tobe the amp and they even re did my ground for me and still no difference...

I got 14.20volts with the car runnin doesnt flinch
and 13.50 around there for my remote wire... ground is fine tried 2 different subs so its the amp...

SO NOW THE DEAL IS

MY AMP WAS ****ED I SENT IT TO THEM FOR SERVICE AS A PAYING CUSTOMER NO WARRANTEE BULL**** I WAS STRIAGHT FORWARD FROM THE START I'll PAY ANY CHARGES ETC.

I GOT THE AMP BACK ITS STILL ****ED IM OUT 80 bucks SHIPPIN AND DIANOSTIC FEE AND 30 bucks for a dianostic fee locally...

AND IM GUNNA TALK TO THESE ****S TUESDAY MORNING...

CAUSE THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH MY WIRING IN MY CAR OR SUB ITS THE ****ING AMP I DONT EVEN THINK HE ****IN LOOKED AT IT... I HAD TO GET IT BACK UNDER MY WARANTEE AND HE ****ED ME THERE TOO!
**** WAS ONLY A WEEK 1/2 LATE AND I MADE SURE BEFORE I SENT IT TO HIM HE WOULD BE ABLE LOOK AT IT AND GET IT BACK TO ME IN TIME FOR MY WARRANTEE OTHERWISE THERE WAS NO POINT IN MY SENDING IT TO HIM AND I SHOULD TAKE IT BACK... NO SEND IT IN, NOT A PROBLEM WE"LL LOOK AT IR WITHIN 48 HRS...

HE HAD THE ****IN THING FOR 2 WEEKS BEFORE HE COULD LOOK AT IT.

I HAD MY DEADLINE WITH MY WARANTEE SO I CALLED HIM SAID I DONT CARE IF U LOOKED AT IT OR NOT I NEED THE AMP BACK PLEASE SHIP IT BACK TO ME...
TOOK OVER AND WEEK AND 1/2 TO GET IT BACK...

THEY ****ED ME AND THE AMP DOESNT ****ING WORK!

WHAT THE **** SHOULD I SAY COME TUESDAY I'VE TALKED TO THIS **** LOTS TOO BOTH OF EM PETER AND NASITH OR WHATEVER ITS A WIERD EAST INDIAN NAME I THINK.

IM PISSED!

67impala 08-29-2003 09:49 PM

HERE IS THE SHORT VERSION

I GOT A DIANOSTIC DONE ON IT WAS BROKEN COST ME 30 BUCKS.

THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG WITH IT AND SEND IT BACK I PUT IT IN MY CAR SAME PROBLEM PLAYS AT LOW VOLUME AND GOES INTO PROTECTION WHEN IT GET TURNED UP.

TOOK IT BACK TO SHOP HERE WHERE I GOT DIANOSTIC DONE AND HAD THEM CHECK IT OUT IN MY CAR WITH ANOTHER SUB AND CHECKED WIRING EVERYONE IS FINE...

Number 1) Lay off the CAPS!
Number 2) Why the need for the exact same post 2x?
Number 3) You bought an amp from a pawn shop? Excelent choice. They are always known for high quality products.
Number 4) Why didn't you test it yourself on somthing other than your own system? This would have solved ALOT of your problems.

really...i think a more reputable dealer would have been a guy off of ebay with a negative seller rating and a name of "thiefmaster1000"

There are always risks associated with buying audio gear from shops like that. Repair shops seem to spin you around in circles too. I had an episode similar to that trying to get my old cd player fixed.

Personally, I prefer to pay a little more and have some peace of mind.

Good luck getting your amp working though, or if not working, then a new one

67impala 08-30-2003 10:22 AM

**** YOU GUYS THAT SAY WELL YOU BOUGHT FROM A PAWNSHOP ETC

You wanna know how much i paid for my
Alpine CDA-7893 With remote and carryin case?
Well i got it at a pawnshop for 200 even with TAX!
they are 2 somethinmg us on ebay plus shippin and they are 700 bucks at internation stereo

Now this kicker amp is a KX 400.1 its 800 bucks
at visions and 184us on ebay plus shippin and duties

180 canadian is not a bad deal even if it costs a hundred bucks to fix...

I can go in and grab a 27" tv at the pawnshop and exchange this amp cause i talked to the guy at the pawnsshop and he extended it.

SO ITS NOT A TOTAL LOSS...

But My dealings with GEM-SEN have been...
im out shippin and dianostic fee and they said its fine and sent it back...

went to certified radio nothing with with my wiring, ground etc tried another sub @ 4 ohms still went into protection...

they said its the amp... 100% even gave it to me in writting...

Buffdaddy 08-30-2003 10:52 AM

the point they were making about buying things at pawn shops is that the items purchased are not necesssarily top-condition.

Sure, you got a good price, but you got a damaged/broken/malfunctioning amp....

Sure, you could exchange it for something else, but if you wanted a 27" TV and not the amp, you probably would have bought the TV in the first place

I would recommend next time you are lookin for a sweet deal, try the classifieds here, the majority of the sellers/buyers are great to deal with, and the deals are excellent too

Maybe the Gemsen repair shop simply missed the problem??
Kind of like the way mechanics miss things all the time?
I really doubt it is some kind of personal slight, and calling Gemsen to scream at them probably will get you very little satisfaction, either

try just speaking to them calmly and logically, you'll be surprised how far it will get you

Peter Barry 08-30-2003 11:11 AM

Like I said in my first post, have you tired to test the amp yourself on something else but your system? If you ask, any shop will bench test an amp for you for little or no cost at all. I am sure you have friends with systems, get them to install the amp in a system that the know 100% that works. I am not saying your wiring is the problem for sure, but if I were in Vegas, thats where my money would ride.

And as far as the whole pawn shop thing goes...might as well go steal it yourself. Thanx for supporting the car audio industry.

Orion_95 08-30-2003 11:45 AM

go pete! and for the record, gem-sen is 1 of the most reputable distributors around imo.

cujo 08-30-2003 06:55 PM

nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than someone "getting a sweet deal" on something from a pawn shop or e-bay and it not working.
Guess what? Sometimes you DO get what you paid for.

OK Mabee you didnt read my post
I've been to certifed radio had a dianostic done on the amp they said they had to send it back to factory tobe fixed.

Now I sent it back they say nothing wrong, with it.

I get the amp back put it in my car same problem
I goto certifed radio They go over all my wiring try another sub and even tried a different ground
and they say its the AMP without question and I got it in writting

So now im out 20 bucks on dianostic and 25 shippin there 2 day service...

the box they sent it back to me in another story
its about 20 times bigger than the amp and you could throw it on the freeway and it would be fine... I guess i cant complain that they packaged it so well but i think it was excessive.

oh and shippin was 35 back to me i believe...

OH AND DID I MENTION THE AMP STILL DOESNT WORK?

now i totally feel for you and no one can point a finger. but you have to see it from both sides. first thing is if you don't buy it from an authorized dealer, how the heck can you expect them to treat you like it is a major priority. I work at the service center for Phoenix gold, and we've encountered many amps that come in muilitple times for the same problems. each time we send them back as no fault found. we test them for days sometimes, and no fault found. they get back to the store and bloody thing is dead. so then we get it back again, and once again. no fault found. in the end after trying it for multiple days, the cause is finally found and is said to be fault of the installer. gee could it be that they hooked it up to a dead sub in front of you. just to show you that it's dead so you can buy another one from them. educate your self so that this doesn't happen to you again. This goes for all of you. just because some one tells you is broken , doesn't always make it true. Unless you do the testing your self, then you have to rely on other peoples opinions. Was the guy who tested your amp certified? did you even bother to ask. you probably talked to a salesman. an uncertified salesman. your call on whether you take it to someone who knows what they're doing or some one who says they know what they're doing. good luckand i hope that you find a solution to your problem

THIS ISNT THE FIRST AMP I"VE HAD IN MY CAR OTHER AMPS WORK FINE AND AND SO DOES MY SUB I ALSO BOUGHT A DIGITAL MUTIMETER

With the car runnin
I got 14.20 volts constant doesnt flinch right at the terminal on the amp.
My remote is a constant 13.50volts

the muti meter says sub is at 2ohms and i know i wired it to 2 ohms so its at 2 ohms other amps work fine tried different grounds everything checks out.

AMP plays at low volume but goes into protection when its turned up..

The shop when i frist had it tested said it needed tobe fixed i paid them 30 dollars and they said they needed to send it back to Gem-Sen tobe fixed.

I was already in touch with Gem-Sen so i delt with them directly.

Now yes it was under a rush thats find i offered to pay more money they refused and said dont worry about it we will be able to look at it and get it back to you in time for your warrantee i wasnt gunna send it in if i wasnt gunna make my warantee... I was garanteed i would have it back in time.

THE AMP IS ****ED

AND I DIDNT TELL THEM SOME BULL**** STORY AND TRY AND GET A WARANTEE I TOLD EM OUTRIGHT I WILL PAY FOR ANY COSTS! AND TOLD THEM WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THAT I HAD TO MAKE A WARANTEE AND I WOULD PAY EXTRA TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT SOONER...

MY AMP IS BROKEN...

Xiph0id 08-30-2003 07:36 PM

I buy stuff from pawn shops all the time. Just be sure to test the amps/subs/etc befor you buy em. I do that everytime I buy something from a pawnshop.

So far without problem I have bought..

RF 300S
US accoustics 4060
Alpine eq 3217
Pioneer cd-635
lanzar 420

from pawnshops.

If you would like some help I could check out the amp for you and maybe help find the problem as I am in Edmonton also.

i first of all would like to say to take a pill

is you amp rated to do 2 ohms
most amps aren't and even if they are they usually do not do any more power
have you tried a 4 ohm speaker that is the load most amps are recoomended to run on

**** MAN READ THE FIRST POST ITS A LONG ONE YES BUT HAS ALL THIS INFO...

I'VE WIRED MY SUB TO 2 & 8 ohms And the sub at the certified radio was wired to 4 ohms was a sony sub in box from the showroom..

AND YES MY ****ING AMP IS RATED AT 2 ohms

ITS A MONO BLOCK AMP
200rmsx1 @4ohms
400rmsx1 @2ohms

....

TAKE A PILL? YOU DIDNT SPEND 60 dollars on shippin and 20 on dianostic fee for total of 80 dollars for them to send u back a broken amp...

AND 30 on a dianostic fee locally

so 80+30 is 110

i bought the amp for 180 ok? see a problem? the amp is worth 180us on ebay

SO DO I PAY ANOTHER 60 BUCKS FOR SHIPPIN AND 20 for another dianostic fee and then repair costs?

IS THIS AMP WORTH IT?

Kicker kx 400.1 ?

I think im at the point where im not gunna spend another cent on this amp...

Absolutly nothing is wrong with the wiring so please just ****ing discount that from anything the ****ing amp is ****ed end of story.

</font>
OK now time to pull rank. First off, I urge you to stop blowing a gasket at everyone that replies to your thread, because that isn't going to get you anywhere. Remember, its not our fault you CHOOSE to buy an amp from a pawn shop. ITS NOT OUR FAULT. STOP YELLING AT US!
Second, if you keep going on like this, all its going to get you is more grief from members.
Frankley I am getting sick of your short fuse. Take pinheads advise, take a pill and get over it. You bought a dud amp, spent more money to ship it all over who knows where and find out it still have the same problem "in your system". Do us all a favor and quit ranting and raving, suck it up and move on. Nuff said. Thread closed.
