In the Ghetto

We use ac extension cords to hook up Alpine type R dvc 2 ohm subs to Rockford amplifers. This was done by a shop back East in Quebec (as far as we'll go about the shop). I guess using a Noma 6 foot extension cord (with multi attachment end) and using the end as a quick disconnect for the sub box is an assumed practice for you Easterners. While the idea is sound, and the 16 gauge wire is fine, just the idea of using an extension cord as a speaker wire makes one laugh. And then you see it in person. Yes it works and works well. Maybe the Easterners do things a little different in their ghetto.
This (as a great customer pointed out) now has all the makings of an easy way to plug the sub into the wall outlet, how about that. Next crucial flaw, bought a 2 year old amp and assumed it was a new model. I'd be a little pissed at that but he got a good deal on it, so no real harm done. However, a good deal does not make up for wiring a dual 2 ohm sub in parallel and running it to a bridged Rockford 350s amplifier. Seems his amp has released it's magic amplifier smoke and does not work anymore. What has the Eastern Ghetto done to us amazing and awesome West coast people. It's a good thing he's in the military and one day will be shipped back east with a fully functional and properly wired stereo system to wow the ghetto with.

I've never used extension cord, but I've used 15A twist lock connectors and plugs in speaker boxes. and I've used a 30A twist lock for my amp connection.
and I use industrial signal cable (2 conductor, 16 guage, shielded with ground) for my RCAs and some speaker wire. I even picked up about 100 ft of 12 conductor 18 guage, double shielded, individually grounded cable for makeing RCAs out of... that's front L-R, rear L-R and Sub L-R all in one cable.

It's truly amazing at what treasures some people find in dumpsters. Just the other day our local diver found lunch compliments of Subway and the Sushi Bar. Hope that new telephone wire allows you to keep in touch better.
