going active

this is something im am very interested in trying. however im conserned my knowledge might be limited in this area. i have done quite alot of reading and think i could do the install and get pro help with tuning. first i have short listed some diy components, have one 4 channel amp and deciding on another.
hu is an eclipse cd 5000. i think it doesnt have the crossover capabilitiy for an active setup,is this right? is it possible or advisable to use the amp crossovers? or just spend on a processor. i have read some postings on active setups here and i would appreciate anyone sharing thier knowledge

the cd5000 has x-overs...or upgrade to the cd7000-7100, it has all the features of the Alpine-ph701 processor (one of the best) except 5.1 surround.

IMO the amp crossovers are too limited to be accurate (in most cases). I have the Eclipse CD7000 and I run my whole system off the deck in pro mode or (3way). I too had reservations on how to do it at first, but now that I have run 2 systems actively, I would never go back to passive crossovers.

It's not as hard as you would think, it's a matter of understanding what you are doing and then playing with speaker positioning and crossover points and slope till go get the sound and imaging that YOU are happy with.

I have sought help and opinions from others but ultimately it's your vehicle and your taste that really matters.

I am not familiar with the CD5000 but Westec is. I purchased the 7000 for the Pro mode feature mainly, not sure if the 5000 has it, I don't think it does actually.

If your deck can control tweeters/midrange/bass channels separately with crossover points and slope then you should be good to go, but like I said, Westec would be the one to ask there.

Apparently this deck has front/rear/non fade(subs) 3 outputs, same as the CD7000 so perhaps there is a way to put the deck into Pro mode for 3 way operation but as I stated, I am not familiar with this deck.

Check with Westec

If not, then you will have to upgrade to 7000 or get a processor, as I can't see any other way.

You did no mention and I neglected to ask, but I assume you are running a front stage (2 mids and 2 tweeters) and a sub or subs. Correct? If so then yes, 3 way is what you need.
