Going from a sealed to a ported box 12" sub?
 

I was thinking of going from a sealed to a ported or vented sub box for a single 12" sub what difference would I see? I would like it to be louder and more boomy.

Is it hard to make a sub box? maybe try to build one for something to do?

Also the Sealed Box I bought was from Candain tire proply sucks to begin with.

What are you suggections please.

Before you buy a new one, make sure the one you have is sealed properly....pull the speaker out and run some silicone along all the inside seams. If the box is leaking air this will help get as much sound out of it as you can.

Building a new sealed box is fairly simple....the key is getting it the right size for your sub. If you can post the model # and any of the specs for it someone here will be able to suggest an enclosure you can build. If it is your first time doing this get a friend to help you do it.....a sealed box is more forgiving of any errors made in the box size, a larger one than the one you have now will go lower and may get louder, but it will not handle as much power.

Ported boxes are a little trickier to build but if you get a design and cut sheet from someone you should be OK.

do you think because I Made a ton of screw holes in my sealed box from unscrewing and screwing my sub in and out about 6 times that would cause it not to be sealed as good as it should be? I made new holes everytime|I put my sib back in the box because I was stripping the holes.

The box Diamond recommends for that sub is vented, the cut sheet and box diagram is located here . Get yourself some 3/4" MDF, if you buy at Home Depot or somewhere similar they can cut the pieces for you and then you can put it together yourself.....:smilie_da

If that looks like too much work, a simple sealed box around 2cuft. should get you better sound than you are getting out of the generic box you got at C.T.

To answer your other question, taking the sub in and out repeatedly is a good way to keep the box from sealing properly. If you can get the sub going and hold a smoke next to the edges and around the driver you should be able to spot where air is leaking out.

damn your good, but this Warning - The use of a 30 Hz subsonic filter is
highly recommended for use with this enclosure. conerces me I don not has a sub sonic filter on my amp.

is there a good cut sheet and diagram for a good sealed box? that one looks like it might be to hard for me to make.

I searched around on the Diamond site, looks like they recommend ported enclosures. I couldn't find anything for sealed. :dunno:

I'd say get someone like Jalat to build you a better one for much less.
