Is this good for me? JL 10w0 in slot-ported...

Noob here...
I just want to add some thump to my system (I'm not looking to set off any alarms). I went to one place and the guy at the store told me he'd sell me a JL 10w0-4 in a slot-ported box for $180, and a matching JL e-series amp or power akoustik amp for ~$230. I originally went into the store looking for a 12", but he thought a 10" would be better for my application.
I drive a 2001 Civic coupe and mainly listen to hip hop, reggae, house. I'm running a Pioneer DEH-P9300 HU and replaced my stock speakers with JBL Decades.
Advice? Should I still look at a 12" considering what I want? Should I get a sealed box for the 10" instead? Are the amps he mentioned good enough for me?
