Question

I recently got a JBL 1200.1 amp, I am wondering what sub would run clean off this amp in a sealed box. I saw a Orion H2 15" in the for sale section. Is that sub suitable for this amp? its probobly gonna go into a 1989 shelby daytona...tell me what you think.

How much space do you have or willing to give up?
What do you want the system to do? SPL champ/SQ car/loud daily with SQ?
Why do you want to go sealed?

yes yes tell us more about your expectations... and why sealed?? theoretically gain 3db when you port your box. May not sound like a lot but 3db is very very noticeable. The H2 may need more power. Especially in a sealed box because you get less output per watt. Not exactly sure but i think they are designed to handle an orion 2500D. which is a lot more poer than a 1200.1.

doesn't it take 3 db to make any noticeable difference to the human ear?

the jbl amp will only be used until I can scavenge enough money to get a better amp. Actually im in the process of trying to buy a 1964 Rambler american, so the sub might hafto go into the trunk of the rambler (be fairly small). The reason I want a sealed box is that its easier to make myself and it usually takes up less room, and usually has better SQ. I'm trying to do everything minimum buck because I am going to university making 10 buck an hour right now. & i'm 17 years old. I also know that the jbl puts out a little bit more than rated 1378 rms I belive, so I thought that should be enough for ear shattering action.....

Off a BP1200 in a single sub setup I would likely go either Orion H2 or RE SX.
Either can be had on-line relatively cheap and go ported with either. It's not much harder to build.
Both will have great SQ and get very loud.
If you're thinking about getting more power and staying with a single sub get the H2.

I would also recomend the RE XXX and the Adire Brahma but they are a bit more expensive.

hey thnx, it looks like you got quite the orion collection going on, tell me what you think about their coax speakers, i have 2 5.25 inch speakers I got for cheap. I also had a 15 inch cobalt sub and a 12 inch cobalt sub but they both got stolen along with my 2 lj W0's and my orion amp before i tested any of them out. The only thing orion I had hooked up was the small cobalt amp. is 30$ for a pair of brand new 5.25 inch speakers a good deal....it sure sounded like 1. I got all my old car audio stuff from a swap meat in red deer, another one is cooming up in October.

Its just a guideline. Everybody is diffent.

But a lot of it depends on what level you are at before you start the 3db increase. When your at say 60db and jump to 63db. I think it is more apparent than if you were to jump from 150db to 153db. Its all just a bunch of theory bull that i don't really like to think about. Just because there are so many variables that contribute to loss and gain.

from what I remember a 10db increase after 120db sounds roughly twice as loud as before. so 140db would sound twice as loud as 130db
