What's the woofer? Power? Why not simply go ported? What is the ported box tuned to (wait, we don't know the woofer, so who cares? lol)? Why in hell are you paying for install when you're doing any work?

I know you've been looking at the Pioneer woofer, but #1 is selecting a woofer. Once you have that, you need to know what kind of power you're going to put into it. THEN you can consider enclosures. Can you handle a brad nailer and a bottle of wood glue? Maybe cut a hole in a piece of MDF with a jigsaw? If so, build it yourself! Save the coin, learn a thing or two. Jalat is always awesome for coming up with good box designs, I see him recommending different designs all the time. PM him for a design. Got a home depot or hardware store anywhere near you? Home Depot, for example, will cut your mdf to your specs, and from there it's a matter of putting it together.

What I usually charge people when I do enclosures:

12" ported - $120 bare MDF and $130 painted.
12" sealed - $75 bare MDF and $85 painted. (polyfill included)

So in other words, the prices are reasonable.

Just make sure whoever is building it understand how to design an enclosure. Ask em to see a blueprint (design) of the enclosure before its made.

I myself always make sure I send someone a pic of what thee enclosure will look like using google sketch up, and send em a pic of the program I use to design the enclosure with all the needed info shown (air space, tuning freq, port area)

i think you work too cheap, a custom enclosure should start at 200, wht do we feel we have to sell ourselves short in this industry....building a proper enclosure takes some skill, the guy driving a street sweeper for the city makes 30 bucks an hour so why shouldnt you...

because not everybody in the world makes that same 30 bux an hour to pay you that... so now instead of having people give you business they just go buy a prefab for 100 bux carpeted because u was like 300 bux for the same thing.

btw those prices dont seem to out there for a box if its well made.

ultimately, the consumers decide what your service is valued at not you. If you're overpriced you get no customers, if you're under priced, you work like a dog and eventually produce an inferior product. Your service's value is only what someone (in the case of a business it better be more than just one person) is willing to pay for it. If you make unique or superior product (superior from your customer's point of view), then you can charge more for it as they are willing to pay for it (pound that sound for example with his curfed ports).

It's just a price quote I don't want the install yet.

I know the size of sub I want and I am going to choose from 2 subs that are within 50RMS of a difference.

If I had a box built and shipped to me, That would cost a lot more probably...

I don't have the tools, No wood skills.

No two subs are equal, is my point. The construction of the box can change based solely on the sub itself and the power it's going to see. I just didn't want to see you build or buy a box that will make the new woofer you buy sound like $#!t
