So it doesn't qualify as a ground pounder, I'd call it loud SQ on low power which is fine for my rap musikz. How does a sealed wall of 8 12's not impress? I'd flip the box and try it. The most space I could fit for a ported box behind the front seats would be 8 cubes, what's the point if I can put that in the trunk with 2 15's on 4k? I didn't want to buy multiple batteries or a huge alt. I could fit 16 cubes for 2 ported 18's but the box would be constructed in the car, not rectangular, upfire, and the cabin wouldn't be sealed from the trunk. Also if I used a ported box the depth isn't enough for a tuning I want.

 

2400 wrms on a stock alt seems to be bit of a tall order, so you might want to consider making changes to your didn't want list, and this is coming from a guy with a really bad electrical system. and sealed boxes (so I'm told) tend to need more power to be as loud as I think you're thinking you're gonna be.

Sealed because I'd play with test tones under whatever port tune I'd use, that's how I busted my XXX. Good efficiency & lots of cone area I'm hoping will make up for less power. I havn't got a numbered goal, just want to throw in the most I can without spending too much. It's going to sound great and slam, lower than your 40hz tuned SPL box I reckon, unless your roll off is higher, which would suck lol. It'll beat what I had before so I can't complain. RMS is 300w and I wouldn't go over it, I don't want to break 1 or 8. One battery under the hood at most + 600w components for 3k total + 270A alt, I know the stock 105A won't cut it, I've searched and the only alt I found was 270A from Mechman for $400 "165 amps by 800 rpm engine speed", it's not enough, maybe they can customize. Amp will probably be a Hifonics because I can't find any others that are 2400w. I hear mixed reviews although there cheap. I can't find what the Alero electrical needs for amps either. Do I need 105A+300A?

 

I'm not sure but I thought ported boxes were more efficient than sealed boxes, and I don't know many guys that have spl boxes tuned to 40 hz, 50 hz maybe. my box is tuned to 40 but I hardly call it an spl box and its only two 12''s. I would put money on it that if I had 8 12''s tuned to 40hz I'd be louder than your sealed box. and it seems that the last sub you had died because of you, not the fact that the box was ported. but thats neither here nor there. if you're going with hifonics, get one that puts out more than 2400 watts rms, just to make sure you have at least that much power. sounds like you're gonna have a big *** battery too. and you're engine is only gonna be at 800 rpm when idling, and 165 is really not a bad number, but if they can put a bigger one together for you then go for it.

Busted the XXX playing music, tinsel fried, I think a battery post came off. If I can find an alt that'll power 4k total than I'm using 2 sealed Xcon 18's in the trunk, I think it'd be louder, if not than 8 12's in 1.25 cf3 each.
