A buddy of mine i talk to is thinking of using this idea to build a new sub box. Apparently there is a new type of spray-on fiberglass that a automotive painter he knows can get pretty cheap. Hes thinking about building the box out of 1" thick styrofoam from the hardwood store, then spraying it with this fiberglass stuff. will this work? cause it sounds like a pretty cheap alternative.

hes prolly talking about a "chop gun" basically chops up fiber glass strands and shoots it mixed with resin into a mould ... boats are made like this (for example)

not to mention.... resin eats Styrofoam...
Resin will eat some types of foam and not others.

Get the right kind.

i can't see it working too well. It seems it would be dense enough but i guess you could keep slamming the mat to it to get it where you want it to be.
