have some questions

i'm wanting some more bass from my system so i'm some what seriously looking into getting 2x 12" JL W6 v2's in a ported box. i was told about $650 from oxford Auto sound (on Kennedy and Lawrence.) sound right?

1. which is better to be maxed out? the amp or subs?
right now my subs are the limiting factor (2x 300watt RMS jl's - i've been told they can do 400 no problem) and my amp is 900W RMS (sony XMD9001GTR).

i know if you have to much power going to the subs you can blow them, what about having the amp maxed? i don't see any issues with that.

2. what brand and where (in Toronto) should i get for a glass mat battery? i was told thats the new thing and does a great job.

3. how much do you think is a fair price for a pair of good condition JL CP110G-W1v2's. i paid about 225-250 for each of them so i was thinking $125? or 230 for both?

4. if i wanted to run a second amp, assuming one isn't enough for me, would it have to be the same amp? how would they get hooked up?

think that's all, sorry for the crappy grammar, hope you can read it.

1. Neither
2. Don't know
3. 50-100.00 each
4.second amp for what? Subs? Other speakers? If it's for the subs, then 1 per sub if you have 2 subs. Same hook up as 1st amp.

I'm not a fan of the amp you are using. Nor am I a fan of the price you are going to pay for those W6's. I suggest speaking to the audio shop and telling them exactly what you want, because then they can show you what you would need.

If its more bass you are after, I would suggest looking at an amp that'll do over 1000rms and a pair of 12"s in a ported enclosure that will take the power.

Most importantly is that you have a proper electrical system that will meet your needs... Most likely leading to an extra batt in the trunk. Kinetik, XS Power, Xstatic, Shuriken all make small batts that pack a powerful punch

I agree with jalat, the amp you have is not the best choice, but I guess it depends on what you do with the power instead of the power supply right?

What I really don't like is the shop you went to talk to. Oxford is TERRIBLE. The one thing I ever bought from there was over 4 years ago. Went back to talk about electrical upgrades and they had no idea what they were talking about, they just wanted me to buy the most expensive battery they had in stock. What is your budget and goal for this upgrade? You should browse through the classifieds, you're bound to find a good deal on some good stuff there.

Or a good deal on new as well. Like a good single Digital Designs DD3512 and then have Jalat build you the proper slot port box for the sub and the car. The amp you have is ok, it is not exceptional but it will do the job properly. Big bass is all about the proper match of sub to box to amp. Most important is the box. Send a pm to basstoy on here and ask him how devastating his DD3512 is vs the 2 subs that he had before. Real world conditions.

thanks for the replies guys.

i don't have a budget per-say, i'm mostly just looking trying to get an idea on what all this will cost. due to speeding tickets i get the pleasure of paying 8400 a year for car insurance so thats eating up basically all my spare cash.

i currently have stock everything on the car (battery, alternator, deck) but have done the Big 3 as well have a 1 farad cap in place.

if i change amp i will very likely pick up a secondary battery from XS power as i keep seeing them on a bunch of sites like this.

where is a good place to buy audio stuff from new in the Toronto area?

i'm thinking i will just change subs for now (pending price) then maybe change out the amp for something better.

@jalat - how much would a dual 12" port sub box cost that you built?
- as well how much should a set of new 12w6's cost?
- and if i do change amps, it would likely be a jl 1000watt or something at least 1000watt.

You have a respectable but not ideal amp right now. The trick is to use it properly and purchase for the future. Have Jalat build you up a proper slot port box for either a one or two sub system and buy the right sub(s) for the application now. Down the road you can go with adding power.

What is your goal for output levels on the subs or are you after really good sound?

how much would a box from him cost for 2x 12" subs ported, do you know?

i will likely but the subs now and have jalat build a box for me, pending the cost, and then upgrade the amp later on.

what do you consider output levels? i'm not concerned about good sound, just bass. what i have now is good, but doesn't pound enough for me anymore.

what are some good audio shops?
