Hi folks:
I'm new here. I need a new head unit. My last Pioneer was stolen, my replacement Sony is no good. Most of the shops I've been to have very little stock. Is that because it's December? I've been offered a Pioneer Premier DEH- P550MP for $275, but It seems to be from year 2001. I dropped in to Phantom, on Dundas Street, they had very little in stock, and no Eclipse.
I don't need much, mostly good radio reception and CDs. Any recommendations? I'm torn between Pioneer, Alpine, Blaupunkt, and the JVC Kameleon.

I don't recommend that you buy the JVC Kameleon. I'm using the deck right and recently been having problems with the unit getting hot after 10 mins or so (prob heat sink problem), plus i've heard of the motor breaking down as well. Personally, i've been hearing good things about pioneer and i'm planning to pick up the Pioneer DEH-P750MP next week.

 

I've used a ton of Pioneer decks over the years and haven't had problems with any. Good features, and easy to use. I'd recommend a Pioneer to anyone...

 

I have used a panasonic and alpine and I really enjoy the alpine. I find it one of the best. the guy i always talk to at the local audio shop thinks alpine is also the best. better than pioneer. but thats just one persons perspective but i trust him because he has access to here and try out most HU. so i trust him.

Thanks for the replys. The JVC is a pretty face, but like most pretty faces, looks like it's going to break.. I'll check out the others.

 

Thanks guys and gals. I've decided to go with the Alpine 9805. It's all I need, the buttons are bigger than anything else, and it's not garish .

 

Hi: I've installed the Alpine. The radio gets 30 FM stations, and it sounds great. Haven't tried a CD yet, but I'm pleased.

 

Good luck finding a JVC Kameleon deck, I've been calling around for my customers for a month now trying to find one, My JVC rep says there out of stock for a while. Let me know if anyone has any
