The Kicker is a 4 channel class ab amp rated to 175w x 2 into 4 ohms when bridged. The Phoenix is a mono class AB amp rated at 500w rms into 4 ohms when bridged. Based on overall power, the Phoenix would be the way to go for driving a sub. Now, based on how old it is and the amp topology, it is not what I would recommend for driving subs. If you want to use these old amps for driving front speakers, sure knock yourself out.

I would look at a class D amp in this case with the same amount of power. This would be a dedicated mono sub amp, 500w rms into 2 ohms. Add a pair of the Pioneer Premiere subs I have on sale and you would be off to a great start. I have them available in dual 2 ohm and dual 2 ohm, both rated to 400w rms each so that a pair of either will easily match to any amps. A deal on a package would have a Exile S500.1 mono class D amp + a pair of the Pioneer Premeire TSW1207D2 subs for $450.00 + tax and shipping. This is well within your budget and might even allow you to pick up a new set of component speakers.

This would give you the bass response that you are looking for, especially if you are having a custom box made .
