Help on choosing equipment for my first intall :) subs- 2x fiq 12"

Hey guys, glad to be able to post here

So this is going to be my first install and i have decided on the subs I want.. 2 FI Q 12" wich are rated at 1000 rms a piece but can go up to 1500 rms a piece with a addon wich I am getting. First of all Should I get the Dual 1 version or the Dual 2?

second of all : What amp is good for this install? Right now Im thinking of a saz-2500d or AQ 2200D...any other recomendations? Which one shall I choose? I want to send around 1200 - 1500 TRUE rms to each sub so the amp will need to be tested and rated at around 2500 TRUE RMS muahah

third : I need a high output alternator for my car: where do i buy this? Do i also need a second batter?

4th: How do i do the big 3? what is the big 3?

5: what kind of box? ported or sealed? I want to to sound crisp and clear yet powerfull bass

thanks guys

im sure ill have more questions later lol

The ohm config of the subs should be determined by the amp that you are getting. I am assuming that for the kind of power, u need an amp that is stable down to 1 ohm in which case you would want the dual 4ohm config on both subs...wiring them in parallel-parallel config would do the trick..
Take a look at a wiring diagaram on how to do this.
Good luck on your first insall.

1) That Sundown SAZ-2500D will be awesome!
2) For coil config, get Dual 1ohm (wire each sub up to 2ohm, then wire the pair into the amp)
3)Not really but it wouldn't hurt at all, you can back the amp up with another battery, more batteries is good
4)Big three - Upgraded wires: Alt->Batt(+), Engine Block->Ground, Batt(-)->ground
5)I'd personally go ported, tuned low to mid 30's good compromise

thanks for the advice stepehn

just a silly question lol Im still having trouble with the wiring

when you say (wire each sub up to 2 ohm, then wire the pair int the amp)..how do I wire each sub into a 2 ohm? what is a 2 ohm? lol

OKAY i see what your saying now...basically connect one sub to the other side ( + to + ) to make 2 ohms and connect THAT wire into the amp and do the same with teh negative side ( - to -) and connect taht to the amp? would that change how much power the subs get because they are connected to each other instead of each of them being connected STRAIGT to the amp?

like this?? http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=2&I=12

I'm thinking of getting the subs at 2 dual ohms so i can parallel wire it to the sub at 1 ohm and get all the ****ing power from it has to be a decent amp though

Couldn't get the12volt link to come up tonight....

Each sub has 2 pairs of connectors....connect 1 - and 1 + together....this creates a 2ohm load for each sub by wiring the coils in series.

Then connect the 2nd positive connector from each sub to the positive on the amp....do the same with the negatives from each sub. It doesn't matter if you connect the subs together first or not as long as you keep the wiring straight.....

This will create the net 1ohm mono load you are looking for.....make sure you buy a quality amp that is rated at that low a load.

You will need a 2nd battery for sure....if you plan on doing a lot of listening with the engine off you will also need an isolator to keep the system from draining your main battery. This will save you having to ask someone for a boost after you've been blasting your tunes for a while.....not a good situation.....

The big 3 is mandatory at this power level, without it your cars electrical system will choke up the first time you crank up the tunes....a link to pics of how to do it is located here.

Nope....This is for the Dual 1ohm subs.

If you want to use the dual 2ohm voice coil subs and wire them up the same way you will end up with a net 2ohm load.
