Help me with my frontstage
Hi.
I got 3 way CDT ES-07.3 set 300rms + up-526xt upstage kit 100rms. I was running it with 400w x 2 from my old PPI PC4100 amp and It sounded ok, with very strong midbass overpowering the midrange. It was ok until I installed two 13W7. So now I'm lacking the midrange alot and I don't need that strong midbass.
I'm thinking to try to go half-active for more control over 7" drivers. I like to run 7"s with 100x2 active and 4"+Tweets+Upstage with 200x2 passive.
Am I going in the right direction?
Thanks.

Its not really about equalizing, I think its more car related issue. Its a 96 Jaguar XJ6-R. The kickpanels are too deep inside and they always get blocked.
Plus got stupid ES/HD-300 3way passive xovers which doesn't give me any control over mid and woofer. The 7" woofers crossed very low (u don't hear any voices only the bass) 4" crossed just right but they are too far in the kicks. I wanna try to run the 7" active in 100Hz-3KHz range and see how it will sound

I was just think if you had the CDT's high-passed too low, the midbass may be a little muddy and overwhelming. Also, if the subs are low-passed too high they might be overlapping with the midbass drivers resulting in too much midbass. Sometimes it works best to underlap the crossover points to get it to sound right.

Don't get me wrong, you can definetly try going active and see what you can do if you have the equipment (it's always fun playing around with stuff)....but I know when I tried doing the same thing you're talking about with my CDT HD 3-way set, it took ALOT of work to just get it sounding as good as it did with the passives. Those are pretty good passives CDT uses....at least they were with the HD's. I would imagine the ones you have are very well designed too since it's a higher end set.

W7s lowpassed at 80hz and CDTs highpassed at 80Hz

If you have the equipment alread, then go for it. If you have to buy the equipment, then I would play around with the current install first. Play around with the install of the mid/midbass drivers to see if you can get more of the sound you're looking for.
