HELP on NEW SYSTEM INFINITY SPEAKERS WITH MTX AMP?
OK, im installing my system soon,
i purchased 5.25 components infinity kappa perfect in the front
these are 4 ohm 100 watt rms
in the rear i have coaxial infinity kappa's which are 2 ohm 55 watt rms.
my deck is a pioneer 7900 4 volt preout.
I originally want going to buy an amp, i was going to wait for a few months, but i just found out that a 2 ohm rear speaker will not run on a regular deck, you need an amp.
ok, so i decided to look for an amp, but im utterly confused i want a good quality amp, but everyone keeps giving me differnent reasons on what an amp can do.
with a 4 ohm front speakers and a 2 ohm rear what would be the ideal amp?
i was told that with 2 ohm rear you would need one amp just 2 support them because the amp would have to be bridged at 2 ohms or i would lose fade control?
Will an MTX 4004 or 6004 mp work with my setup or will i run into problems? I also need to know what kind of cap you would reccomend for a 3 series BMW. Would 1 farad suffice?
the forum seems to have alot of knowlegable ppl, hopefully someone can help me?

most 4 channel amps will run at 2ohms in normal mode. The problem is you'll be giving more power to your rear 2 ohm speakers than your front comps. If you can switch your 2 ohm speaks for a comparable 4 ohm set, it would work out better. Otherwise just get a 4x 100 amp, and adjust the gains all the way down for the rears and use the fader to reduce the rear output to the point at which you feel they sound appropriate. The other option is to get separate amplifiers for the front and rear. A small, 25x2 or similar will yield about double that at 2ohms for your rear speaks, and then you can get a 2x100 for your fronts.
thanks, does does clear things up somewhat. I cant really change the rear speakers they are already purchased, but given what i have what would be an average to good amp? and would would be the best or most ideal amp?
I'm a firm believer in amp quality based on previous experience. I've always had excellent results from Rockford Fosgate, MTX, Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, and a whole bunch of other ones. The MTX you mentioned is a good amp and will do the job quite well. If you haven't purchased one yet, consider 2 separate amps that provide the power you require for each set of speakers. It may be a little more difficult to install, but affords more flexibility. A 2x 30 watt @ 4 ohms for the rear will yield about 2 x60 @ 2 ohms, and a 2 x 100 will work well up front. As far as sound quality goes, I honestly don't believe most people can hear the difference between amps set up similarly, so I don't consider that as a criteria when I'm shopping (this is a very highly debated topic, and it's not my intention to start one again...if you believe you can hear a difference, by all means it's your money...buy it!). I buy solely on my experience, cost, features, and physical attributes (size, appearance etc..) that are required for my application.
If your deck manual says it will run a 2ohm load, do it. If not, don't....you'll smoke the deck for sure.
Veeman has the right idea.....get yourself a good quality 4 channel amp for now, set it up as he mentioned, and enjoy.
It's too bad you can't mount the 2ohm speaks in the front....oh well.....
