Question Help a newb? :)

Hey all,

So I want to get my very first aftermarket car audio system. I'm looking for something really entry-level that's not gonna blow the roof off, but will sound good at high volumes every now and again (not looking for sheer SPL here). I've got a 2001 Civic that's as basic as they come (literally; the only "power" anything it's got is power steering).

I've seen this package (http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=BDL10001475&logon=&langid=EN ) at Best Buy and it seems like a pretty good deal to me. I've got a few questions, though: If I'm looking at a system that's under $1000 (before tax), what are some good options? And what should I be looking for in general? And finally, what speaker sizes are needed for the front and rear (diameter and depth)?

I found this mighty handy little thread (http://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1928704), but it doesn't list any speaker sizes, just installation procedures.

Thanks in advance for your help guys and gals

It's the coupe but I'm not sure of the model. I believe it's the DX, though.

It doesn't look like those Alpine speakers will fit. Are you willing to modify your doors?

Not if I can help it, really. I'd rather just have something that's more drop-in and go.

My wife's car (2001civic)has the following in the - Kenwood Mp3 Deck, TR650-CXiin the doors - Alpine MRD-300(sub amp) MRV-240(Front) and 12" Kicker Comp VR is a Bassworx box.

My suggestion to you is put the Amp(s) under the seats, and get a bassworx(or something similar) 12" sub.

Your best choices for your budget are:
Best Buy Canada Web Store: Portable Electronics: Car Audio & Video: Alpine Car Audio Package
$599 for a deck, front, amp, sub and box

Best Buy Canada Web Store: Portable Electronics: Car Audio & Video: Stinger Amplifier Kit (SWKH8RS)
119.99 for all the wires and connectors

Mounting Kit
$25
http://documents.victorytechnologies...oduct/1126.jpg
$15 Harness

Total: $759.98 - more if you need it installed - I would suggest it unless you have done this before!

***BTW the 6.5's will fit 100% with a 5/8" spacer***

Cheers
